Forwarding Your FHSU Scatcat E-Mail
Because FHSU is unable to provide support for other e-mail systems, we cannot assist with problems encountered with using other e-mail providers, such as:
- Interruption, discontinuation, or unavailability of service
- Maintenance or performance problems
- Forgotten passwords or login problems
- Poor system response time
- Messages returned undeliverable
- Space limitations (which can cause messages to be returned undeliverable)
- Spam blocking (which can sometimes cause desired messages to be blocked)
- Unsatisfactory or non-existant support
Therefore, although forwarding service is available, we recommend accessing your Scatcat account directly in order to receive official University mail and messages. If you still wish to forward new messages to another address you may do so using the instructions below.
The TigerTracks login is used to access your Scatcat account. To activate your TigerTracks login, go to tigertracks.fhsu.edu/register/. For more information, see TigerTracks Login Information.
Forwarding Steps:
(If you are a Macintosh user, use your Telnet software to access scatcat.fhsu.edu, and then go to Step 3.)
-
Establish an active Internet connection. Then, click Start, and then Run.
-
In the box labeled Open, enter telnet scatcat.fhsu.edu and then click OK.
-
At the Login prompt, enter your TigerTracks username (the portion of your e-mail address preceding the @ symbol), and press Enter.
-
At the Password prompt, enter your TigerTracks password.
-
At the $ command prompt, type the following command as shown, using the full e-mail address you want your Scatcat mail to be forwarded to, then press Enter:
echo “abjones@otherservice.com” > .forward
Note: There is one space both before and after the “greater than” (>) sign.
-
At the $ command prompt, type exit and press Enter to close your Telnet session. You will receive a Connection to Host Lost message (because you are no longer connected to Scatcat through the Telnet software).
-
Send a test note to your Scatcat address and see if it is delivered to the e-mail account that you are forwarding to.
-
If you wish to remove the forwarding, simply repeat Steps 1-4 to log in to Scatcat, and then remove the .forward file by typing rm .forward at the $ command prompt. Type exit and press Enter to close your Telnet session. You will receive a Connection to Host Lost message (because you are no longer connected to Scatcat through the Telnet software).
-
If you wish to change the address your e-mail is being forwarded to, repeat these procedures, and change the e-mail address that was entered in Step 5.
If you have problems
Review these procedures and check to make sure you have followed all steps as instructed and that the “echo” command has been entered correctly. Check to make sure that your user name and password have been entered correctly. For further assistance,
