Student Network Registration Frequently Asked Questions
Students may connect to FHSU's TigerNetStudent on-campus wireless network. Those who live in
FHSU's Residence Halls may also connect to the wired (Ethernet) network. Access to these networks requires a registration
process that uses the TigerTracks login.
If you are unable to locate an answer to your student network registration question below, see
Wireless Access Information,
Residence Hall Connection Policies and Procedures or
contact the CTC HelpDesk.

What does it mean to register a device?
“Registration” is the process of connecting to the network with your computer (or device), opening an Internet browser, and entering your TigerTracks username and password. During this process, a number that uniquely identifies your device (Media Access Control or "MAC" address) is stored in a database. This allows the system to recognize your device and grant you full access to the network.

Why do I have to register my device?
FHSU wireless (TigerNetStudent) and wired (Ethernet) Internet access is restricted in order to ensure a basic level of security. Registering your device will grant you access to the network.

How many devices may I register?
You may automatically register a maximum of two devices to the wireless (TigerNetStudent) network and two devices to the wired (Ethernet) network.

Can I register more than the maximum allowed?
Yes, you may request to have additional devices registered by
contacting the CTC HelpDesk. You will need to provide the
MAC address of your device. Click here for instructions for locating the MAC address for your
device. Please note that registration of devices above the maximum is at the discretion of Fort Hays State University's
networking staff. If you live in a residence hall on campus, you also have the option of registering up to two devices on
the wired (Ethernet) network. For more information, see Residence Hall Connection Policies and Procedures.

Can I register my game console?
Yes. Game consoles can be connected to either the wireless or wired network, but we recommend connecting
them to the wired (Ethernet) network, because of the negative effects on network performance that can occur due to the
higher use of bandwidth required for game activity. Game console registrations are not automatic; they may be requested
by completing an online form. Please allow up to two business days for requests to be processed. For more information,
see Residence Hall Connection Policies and Procedures.

How often will I need to register my device?
Unless you make changes to your system that affect the network connection (such as installing a new
wireless card, new operating system, etc...), you should only need to register your device once each academic year. All
TigerNetStudent wireless and wired netowrk registrations are cleared out annually between the summer and fall
semesters.

What happens if I get a new network card or new computer?
In this case, you may use your second registration, or you may request to have your previous registration(s) removed by
contacting the CTC HelpDesk. Then, simply connect to the
network, open an Internet browser, and run through the registration process again.

Can I delete a registration?
Old registrations can be easily removed by contacting the CTC HelpDesk. Deleting old registrations will allow you to automatically register new devices.

How do I find my MAC address?
Here are some general instructions for locating Media Access Control (MAC) addresses for selected types
of devices. If these procedures do not work for you, please contact the manufacturer of your device for instructions
on how to located the MAC address.
You may have two MAC addresses if your device is able to connect to both wireless and wired (Ethernet)
networks. There will be one MAC address for each type of connection (wired or wireless). A MAC address is a
