New Online Software Storefront Coming Soon!
The CTC HelpDesk is pleased to announce a new partnership with e-academy
to provide an online storefront for sales of Microsoft software available on our Student Select and Work-At-Home
licensing agreements. As a Microsoft Partner, e-academy is authorized to assist educational institutions with
distributing software through Microsoft’s volume licensing programs. We are excited to be able to expand our software
offerings and make online purchases for our Virtual College students easier and more convenient.
In order to use e-academy’s services, we are currently running a close-out sale
to sell off our current software inventory. We hope to have the agreement finalized and the new Web site in operation before the summer semester begins. When the storefront is ready, an announcement will be sent out by e-mail, and information will be posted on the
CTC HelpDesk home page. The prices (including shipping) for most products will be in the $60 - $80 range for students
(license included) and in the $15 - $25 range for faculty and staff (license not included). The Work-At-Home products are made
available to faculty and staff under Fort Hays State University’s campus license agreement; therefore faculty and staff
may purchase the media only, without a license.
Using e-academy’s services will allow us to make more products available for sale.
Currently, the only products we have been able to provide were the Windows versions of Microsoft Office. When the new storefront
goes online, we will be able to provide Microsoft Office for Macintosh users. We will also be able to
offer Windows operating system upgrades.
Behind the scenes, e-academy will be taking care of all of the requirements needed for compliance with the
volume licensing programs, including inventory ordering and management, sales transactions, product distribution, and financial
reporting. They will create and manage FHSU’s storefront Website, which includes a digital end-user license agreement and
an authentication process that will identify the purchaser as an eligible FHSU student, faculty, or staff member. As before,
each eligible person will be able to purchase one copy per version of each product.
FHSU will provide eligibility information to e-academy. Enrolled students will
be eligible to make purchases until the end of the last semester for which their tuition and fees have been received. Currently
employed faculty and staff who are covered under FHSU’s campus license agreement will also be eligible to make purchases.
After we begin using e-academy’s services, we will no longer carry software inventory at the CTC
HelpDesk. All software purchases will be made online, so users are asked to plan ahead to allow up to one week
for shipping time. Purchases can be made using a credit card or any debit card that uses a regular credit card number, such as
the Visa Checkcard. Tiger Card holders with a Commerce Bank account may apply for a Visa Checkcard by visiting Commerce Bank.
Watch your university e-mail or check the CTC HelpDesk home page for further details as we continue
preparations for launching our new online software storefront.

Spyware and Adware - Is your computer protected?
In addition to viruses, other types of malicious programs have caused serious problems for
computer users. This article has been written to promote understanding of Adware/Spyware, discuss preventative
measures and provide information about ways to detect and remove these programs. If you have ever encountered
"Malware", you understand how important it is to protect your computer from these unwelcome culprits.
FHSU and the CTC HelpDesk cannot provide personalized support for non-university systems,
including those owned by students; however, using preventative measures and safer browsing habits can
reduce your computer's vulnerability to malicious software.
Due to its length, this article has been placed in the HelpDesk Headlines
section of our Web site. Click here to view the article from the beginning, or

and anti-virus programs, we cannot make any guarantees regarding their use.

New Portal to bring Single-Sign-on, Centralized Access for FHSU
Personalization, convenience, and single-sign-on access are just a few of the features the Portal Development
Team has incorporated into the development of the new FHSU Web Portal. With its initial launch targeted for January 2006,
the portal will provide a centralized location for users to check FHSU e-mail, access their online coursework, and interact
with classmates, professors, and friends. Users will be able to look up club and event information and perform such tasks
as checking grades, reviewing transcripts, and paying tuition. After logging in, each person will view only the information
and features they need, and will have the ability to personalize some areas of the portal.
To see the current portal design, and to learn more about the project, see
