Transferring Files to and from Your FHSU Scatcat Account Using WS_FTP

Windows users can download a freeware version of WS_FTP from ftp://www.fhsu.edu/win95+/.

These instructions were written using WS_FTP LE 5.0. The information provided here may be used with other versions of WS_FTP or other FTP (File Transfer Protocol) programs. Any FTP program may be used; however, please note that CTC HelpDesk support is provided only for procedures distributed by our office.

Before using these instructions, your FHSU student Scatcat e-mail account must be activated. For information about how to activate and use your Scatcat account, view www.fhsu.edu/ctc/helpdesk/ or contact the CTC HelpDesk for assistance.

Logging on to Your Scatcat Account with WS_FTP

  1. Establish an active Internet connection.

  2. Open WS_FTP.

  3. A Session Properties window will appear. Click New to create a new profile, and then enter the following information:

  4. Profile Name: scatcat.fhsu.edu
    Host Name/Address: scatcat.fhsu.edu
    Host Type: Automatic detect
    User ID: Enter your TigerTracks username .
    Password: Enter your TigerTracks password.
    Account: (Should be blank)
    Anonymous: Should not be checked

    Click on the Startup tab, and then enter the following:

    Initial Remote Site Folder: (Should be blank)
    Initial Local Folder: Enter the path to the folder on your computer where your files are located.
    (If this entry is left blank, you can browse to locate the folder later.)
  5. When finished, click OK.

    The WS_FTP session window for your Scatcat account will be displayed.

    The Local System pane (on the left side of the window) displays the folders and contents of your computer, starting from the Initial Local Folder from Step 3 above. If you did not enter an Initial Local Folder, browse to select the folder on the local computer where you wish to send or receive your files.

    The Remote Site pane (on the right side) displays the folders and contents of your Scatcat account.

Sending Files to Your Scatcat Account

  1. Click once to place a check mark next to Auto in the lower area of the window.

  2. On the Remote Site side, double-click on the My Documents folder of your Scatcat account to open it.

  3. Locate the file you wish to send on the Local System side. Click once on the file to highlight it, and then click the right arrow button (>) to send the file to your Scatcat account. You may also use the mouse to drag and drop files as needed.*

Retrieving Files from Your Scatcat Account

  1. Click once to place a check mark next to Auto in the lower area of the window.

  2. On the Local System side, browse to open the folder on your computer where you wish to save your file.

  3. On the Remote Site side, browse to open the folder on Scatcat where your files are located. Click once on the file you want to retrieve to highlight it, and then click on the left arrow button (<) to retrieve the file from your Scatcat account and save it on your computer. You may also use the mouse to drag and drop files as needed.*

*Caution: Be careful not to delete or rename system or mail files in your Scatcat account. This may result in problems with accessing or using your account. We recommend using the My Documents folder for personal files. You may also create new folders for your personal use.
