Students should not use these instructions; they should choose the TigerNetStudent SSID and connect using their TigerTracks login.

Faculty and staff should follow the setup instructions below, and then use their FHSU network login to connect. If your network login does not allow access, you should submit a CTC Request for Services to the Network and Servers section (through Lotus Notes) to request wireless access.

Please note that wireless setup instructions can vary depending on the type of wireless card installed in your system. These steps will work for many types of cards installed on Macintosh OS 10.3 and 10.4 systems, but they may not match your setup. If these instructions do not work for you, or if you need assistance after attempting to configure your wireless connection, please contact the CTC HelpDesk to arrange a time for individual assistance.

Configuration Procedures:

In order to properly configure your connection, it is necessary to be in a location where a TigerNet signal is detected.

1. Click on the Open Apple at the top left corner of your screen, and then choose System Preferences. Click on the Network icon.

2. Click on the Show drop-down arrow and choose Network Port Configurations.

3. Verify that Airport has a checkmark beside it. You may want to click and drag Airport to the top of the list.

4. Click on the Show drop-down arrow and choose Airport.

5. If the Airport tab is not selected, click on it. Verify that By default, join: is set to Automatic. If you see an Allow this computer to create networks box, make sure it is not checked. Verify that Show Airport status in menu bar is checked.

6. Click on the TCP/IP tab. Click on the Configure IPv4 drop-down arrow and choose Using DHCP. You may be prompted to apply changes; if so, click Apply.

7. Click on the Show All icon or button in the upper left corner of the window, and then click on the Sharing icon (located in the Internet & Network section of the window). Enter your desired Computer Name.

8. Click on System Preferences from the menu and choose Quit System Preferences.

9. Click on the Airport Status icon (it looks like an upward "wave") on the right side of the menu bar and choose Open Internet Connect. (An alternative way to open Internet Connect is to go into System Preferences, click on the Network icon, select AirPort, and then click Connect.)

10. Click on the 802.1x icon. (This is a lock-shaped icon titled 802.1x at the top of the Airport status window.) If you do not have an 802.1x icon, go to Step 16. Next, click on the Configuration drop-down arrow and choose Edit Configurations.

11. If you do not have any existing wireless connections on your computer, enter TigerNet in the Description field, replacing 802.1X Configuration. If you have other wireless configurations, click the '+' (plus) button to add a new configuration, and then enter TigerNet in the Description field. Verify that the Network Port is set to Airport. Enter your User Name and Password in the appropriate fields. Enter TigerNet in the Wireless Network field. (Important: Type TigerNet exactly as shown!)

12. Next, place a check mark next to PEAP, TTLS, and MD5. Remove any checkmarks next to TLS and LEAP. Click and drag PEAP, TTLS,and MD5 to the top of the list in the order listed. Click OK when finished.

13. Click Connect. The computer will attempt to connect to the wireless network and retrieve the necessary security certificates. If a Certificate message appears asking you to review the security certificates, click Accept All. Typically, it will take no more than 5 seconds to verify your identity to the network and obtain an IP address. However, the first time may take from 5 to 30 seconds.

14. To close your connection, click Disconnect (in the 802.1X window). To close the Internet Connect window, click on Internet Connect from the menu and choose Quit Internet Connect. If you wish to turn the Airport wireless network services on or off, click on the Airport Status icon on the right side of the menu bar and choose Turn Airport Off (On).

15. Whenever you wish to connect to the TigerNet network, click on the Airport Status icon. Turn Airport Status on, open Internet Connect, and select the TigerNet network.

Instructions for setup if you do not have an 802.1x icon:

16. Click on the Network drop-down arrow and choose Other.

17. In the Network Name field, type TigerNet. (Important: Type TigerNet exactly as shown!)

18. Click on the Wireless Security drop-down arrow and choose 802.1X WEP.

19. Enter your User Name and Password in the appropriate fields. Ensure that the 802.1X Configuration field is set to Automatic. Click OK to connect.

20. The computer will attempt to connect to the wireless network and retrieve the necessary security certificates. If a Certificate message appears asking you to review the security certificates, click Accept All. Typically, it will take no more than 5 seconds to verify your identity to the network and obtain an IP address. However, the first time may take from 5 to 30 seconds.

21. To close your connection, click Disconnect (in the 802.1X window). To close the Internet Connect window, click on Internet Connect from the menu and choose Quit Internet Connect. If you wish to turn the Airport wireless network services on or off, click on the Airport Status icon on the right side of the menu bar and choose Turn Airport Off (On).

22. Whenever you wish to connect to the TigerNet network, click on the Airport Status icon. Turn Airport Status on, open Internet Connect, and select the TigerNet network.
