TigerNet Wireless Configuration Instructions for Faculty and Staff using
Macintosh OS 10.5 or higher
For information about using wireless access on campus at Fort Hays State University, click
here.
Students should not use these instructions; they should choose the
TigerNetStudent SSID and connect using their TigerTracks login.
Faculty and staff should follow the setup instructions below, and then use their
FHSU network login to connect. If your network login does not allow access, you should submit a CTC Request for
Services to the Network and Servers section (through Lotus Notes) to request wireless access.
Please note that wireless setup instructions can vary depending on the type of wireless card installed in your system. These steps will work for many types of cards installed on Macintosh OS 10.5 or higher systems, but they may not match your setup. If these instructions do not work for you, or if you need assistance after attempting to configure your wireless connection, please contact the CTC HelpDesk to arrange a time for individual assistance.
Configuration Procedures:
In order to properly configure your connection, it is necessary to be in a location where a TigerNet signal is detected.
Click on the Open Apple at the top left corner of your screen, and then choose
System Preferences. Click on the Network icon.
Choose Airport from the column on the left.
Click on Advanced.
Click on the TCP/IP tab. Click on the Configure IPv4 drop-down
arrow and choose Using DHCP. Then click on the Configure IPv6 drop-down arrow and
choose Off.
Click on the Airport tab. Click the '+' (plus) button to add a
new preferred network.
Enter TigerNet in the Network Name field. (Important: Type
TigerNet exactly as shown!) Click on the Security drop-down arrow and choose 802.1X WEP.
Enter your User Name and Password in the appropriate fields. Click on the 802.1X
drop-down arrow and choose Automatic. Ensure that a checkmark is placed next to Remember this network.
Click Add when finished.
Verify that TigerNet is now listed in the preferred network list. Click OK when finished.
Click Apply. The computer will attempt to connect to the wireless network and
retrieve the necessary security certificates. If a keychain message appears asking you to store TigerNet in
your keychain, click Always Allow. If a Certificate message appears asking you to review the
security certificates, click Accept All. Typically, it will take no more than 5 seconds to verify your
identity to the network and obtain an IP address. However, the first time may take from 5 to 30 seconds.
If you wish to turn the Airport wireless network services on or off, click on the
Airport Status icon on the right side of the menu bar and choose Turn Airport Off (On).
Whenever you wish to connect to the TigerNet network, click on the Airport Status
icon. Turn Airport Status on and select the TigerNet network.
If you are using OS 10.5 and 802.1x is not detected...
In System Preferences, select Network.
Select Airport from the list on the left.
Select Join Other Network from the Network Name drop-down menu.
For the Network Name, type: TigerNet.
Enter username and password in the appropriate boxes.
In the 802.1x drop-down menu, select Automatic.
Ensure Remember this Network is checkmarked.
Click Join.
If you are prompted to trust a certificate, click Show Certificate.
Click the arrow next to Trust and change When Using this Certificate to Always Trust.
Click Continue.
