The Computing and Telecommunications Center (CTC) is responsible for the digital infrastructure at Fort Hays State University. Administrative functions supported include the student information system, the human relations system, and the financial system, as well as hardware and software for the data warehouse. Students, faculty, and staff interact with these systems primarily through the TigerTracks and TigerCentral portals. Some staff also have client access to the financial system and reports in the data warehouse.
The CTC provides a campus-wide e-mail system for faculty, staff and student employees and creates accounts in a Google Apps (Gmail) platform for students. This service includes a variety of free online collaboration tools. In addition, the CTC provides server and integration services for many other systems, including the Blackboard learning management system and the PowerFaids financial system.Network access is a combined effort of the CTC and Physical Plant. The Network Coordinator oversees the local area network and the wide area network. Ethernet ports are provided for faculty and staff across campus (and for students in residence hall rooms) and wireless access points deliver wireless Internet throughout campus. Telecommunication Services personnel support campus-wide voice mail, voice, and other communication services.Various support groups exist within the CTC. The New Development group is recreating the Student Information System on a new platform. The Mainframe Services group maintains and enhances the mainframe portion of the current Student Information System. The Web Content Manager maintains the FHSU website and provides website development training and support for university personnel.Additional services provided at the CTC include statistical consulting, optical mark recognition (mark sense) scanning, and test grading.Mediated Classroom staff install and maintain equipment for mediated classrooms, conference rooms, and labs across campus.Staff within the Infrastructure and Support Services group purchase, install, configure and maintain server and client software and repair desktop computers, laptops and peripherals for faculty and staff on campus. In addition, they set up and remove user accounts, administer security, and provide user training and support for various systems. This group also includes the CTC HelpDesk, the Tiger Info Call Center, and a Media Equipment Checkout service for faculty and staff for instructional purposes.
