Tutoring Help with Writing Assignments

The Writing Center is an excellent place to write or to go for feedback on any kind of writing. Located in the basement of Forsyth Library (FL20), it features a computer lab and trained writing consultants. Drop by or call ahead for an appointment (628-4106) -- preferably well before the due date of your paper. Beginning Monday, August 29, the Writing Center will be open the following times: 9:30am-5:00pm Monday-Thursday, 6:30pm-8:30pm Monday-Wednesday evenings, and 9:30am-12:30pm Fridays. It’s FREE. The FHSU Writing Center does not serve as a proofreading service or guarantee perfect papers, but tutors will help students work through their papers.

The Academic Success Program also offers free writing assistance in Picken Hall 308. For Fall Semester 2005, peer tutors there will be available Monday through Thursday, 8am-4:30pm and Friday, 8am-12:30pm. Please call the following number for an appointment: 628-4401.

For students in Virtual College courses, Fort Hays State University has joined with an online tutoring and academic support service, called SMARTHINKING, to provide Web-based tutoring 24 hours a day, seven days a week. While not a proofreading/editing service, SMARTHINKING supplements the existing Academic Success Program services by offering real-time online tutoring in a wide variety of courses

Students wanting to utilize SMARTHINKING should contact the Academic Advising and Career Exploration Center (1-800-628-3478 or 1-785-628-5577) for login information. For other questions Virtual College students may have, they can visit the FHSU Writing Center Website (www.fhsu.edu/writingcenter) and click on "Writing Links," which offers a number of links to sites that offer useful information on a variety of issues that deal with writing.
