Known Issues

Blackboard does not function properly with Internet Explorer web browser. To ensure a smooth and trouble free experience with Blackboard, please use Firefox or Google Chrome for both Mac and Windows system, or Safari for Mac system.

Other web browsers that are not compatible with Blackboard are not supported by CTELT FHSU.

Bb is responding slow for COX Internet Service Provider Clients 
FHSU TigerTech and CTELT/Learning Technologies got some recent reports about Blackboard working slowly for some users who have COX as their Internet Service Provider. While are currently working with both COX and Bb Inc companies to solve this issue, the temporary workaround to solve this issue is by changing the DNS server settings.
This guide will walk you through the steps on how to manually change the DNS server settings

Copy/Paste in the text editor:

Copying/pasting text (from Word or the notepad, for example) into the text editor can be done only through the keyboard keys Ctrl+C (Copy), Ctrl+V (Paste), and Ctrl+X (Cut). This procedure works well in all browsers, except Firefox.

If you want to copy/paste text from elsewhere in Bb (or some other online site), the work-around is to copy and paste it to a word document or the notepad, then copy/paste it from there into the text editor.

Chrome is the least troublesome browser for working with the text editor. (Go Chrome!)

HTML Embedded content:

Content embedded through HTML (for example, Youtube/TED/Viemo videos, Voki, MentorMob, etc.) will not display unless the associated URL begins with "https" (secure browsing protocol).

If you (or your students) are embedding content in your class (in blogs, discussions, etc.) using HTML objects, make sure that your HTML code has "https" in it not http. It should starts like this "src=https://"

External Links in Blackboard:

Links to other websites should be set to open in a new tab/window, or they may not open. The option to open in a new window is ON by default if you are adding a link through the content area. However, if you are pasting a URL in the text box or inserting a hyperlink, follow these steps:

  1. Highlight the link or the URL
  2. Click on the "Insert/Edit Link" icon (chain symbol)
  3. Set the link the open in "New Window/Frame"
  4. Click Submit

Horizontal Scroll bar missing in the Grade Center (Mac users only):

  1. Launch System Preferences, either from the Dock or from the Apple menu.
  2. Once the System Preferences window opens, select the General preference pane.
  3. The middle section of the General preference pane controls when scroll bars appear and a few additional scroll bar options.
  4. To return the scroll bars to their pre-Lion functionality, select "Always" from the Show Scroll Bars options. The scroll bars will now always be visible, even when you're not scrolling.

Safe Assign Error : Some users get this error: "Not Logged In SafeAssign"

A student receives the following error when posting an assignment, "Sorry, we do not think you are logged in to SafeAssign. Your session may have timed out. If you have received this message in error, please contact your system administrator."


Check your browser to be sure it is configured to accept 3rd party cookies. Alternatively, clear out the cookies from your browser, clear temporary internet files, and the java temporary files. 

The problem has mostly been with Firefox and Safari on the MAC.

To Allow Third-party Cookies:

Mozilla Firefox

Select Preferences from the Firefox menu

Click the Privacy tab.

Place a check beside "Accept third party cookies" and "Accept third party cookies."

Google Chrome

Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.

Select Settings.

Click Show advanced settings.

In the "Privacy" section, click the Content settings button.

In the "Cookies" section, you can change the following cookies settings 

Place a check beside "Allow local data to be set " and click Done


Open the Safari menu and select Preferences,

Click the Security tab

Select the radio button beside “Always” under Accept Cookies.
