FAQ questions
Q – I run out of the quota limits.
A – You might upload too much video / audio files into your course shell, please consider using iTunes U or the streaming server to host your files and just give a link in the course shell. In this way, it will save lots of space from the Blackboard system in a long run term.
Contact to the system administrator in CTELT to increase some quota for your temperary use.
Q – The modfiy grade page shows blank in Blackboard .
A – This is the problem we are still doing the research for the reason. Here is the workaround for this problem from Jeffrey Sadler from Department of Mathematics and Computer Science:
"I found how to 'eliminate' the Blackboard gradebook issue in which one wants to modify a grade but on clicking the individual student link only receive a blank 'Modify Grade' page. If you select the gradebook item like (such as the gradebook item 'Exam 2") then within the page "Item Options: ...' choose the Item information to modify a setting. Then by changing the current setting in the 'Include item in Gradebook score calculations' to the opposite, the Modify Grade page will come up normal. I have had gradebook items in which the 'Include item in Gradebook score calculations' was set at Yes and I changed it to No as well as other items which were set at No and I changed to Yes...every time once going through a change I was then able to access an appropriate 'Modify Grade' page for that item."
Q – I can’t find a student on Blackboard.
A – All students
are added to Blackboard within 24hrs of enrolling at FHSU,
so you may need to wait one day before adding the student
if they recently enrolled.
The student may also already be in
the class. Go to the "Control Panel" and select
“List Modify Users” to view the list of currently
enrolled students.
There is also the possibility of a
name change and Blackboard has not yet been updated. Try searching
for the student by their Maiden name (available on CICS).
Q – Students say my content or test isn't visible?
A – It is possible
the content is set to be unavailable or a time limit to view
the material has passed. Go to your control panel, find the
area where the
content is saved and check to see if the icon is grayed or
seems faint. If the item is grayed out it will not be available
for students to see or access.
To change the availability, click the
"Modify" button to the right of the item. Scroll
down to the options and change the availability to "Yes".
If the time limit has expired, uncheck the date restrictions
for the item or reset the date for the current semester. Many
times using dates, other than for testing,
makes content more difficult to manage from semester to semester.
When finished, click the "Submit" button and your
item will then be available to students.
Q – How do I remove all the students at the
end of the semester?
A – From the
Control Panel, click on “Course Utilities” and
then “Course Recycler”. Select “Users”
and submit the form. Click

Q – How do I automatically add students to
Blackboard?
A – A request
form is available at http://www.fhsu.edu/ctelt/bbenrollment for a few weeks before the beginning of every semester. An
email announcement is set to all the Blackboard instructors
when the form is activated for the upcoming semester. Unfortunately
we are unable to accept new requests once the semester has
started.

Q – I forgot my password for Blackboard.
A – If you have
forgotten your password in Blackboard, click the "Password/Registration Recovery " link below the text boxes on the Login
page. Fill out the form and you will be able to reset your password . Click

Q – The class I enrolled in, is not on Blackboard.
A – You may not
have been added to the course on Blackboard yet. Contact your
instructor for the class and make sure there is a Blackboard
component. If so, ask to be added to it.
Q – An old class shows up on my Blackboard.
A – Contact the
instructor of the class and ask to be removed from the course.
Q – I do not receive my instructor’s
emails.
A – By default
e-mails are sent to your Scatcat account. To change the default
to an e-mail address you wish to use, click on “Personal
Information” (left column in the Welcome page) and then
select "Edit Personal Information" and enter your
preferred e-mail address. Then click the "Submit"
button at the bottom right of the page.
Q – I’m having problems opening or downloading
a file my instructor posted.
A – Try saving
it to your computer. Right click on the link to the file and
select “Save Target As” (or similar wording).
Then save the file to your desktop to open with the appropriate
software.
