Soon after the semester ends, the CTC will be engaged in some fairly large scale, complex system upgrades. What follows are dates and general descriptions of the upcoming upgrades and the outages that will occur as well.

At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, we will begin the replacement of our core network router. This means that network access will not be available at this time. We need to start this during daytime hours so that we can get the necessary technical support from our vendor, if necessary. This means that there will be no network access on campus for a few hours. There could be intermittent outages and problems as we continue to work on this project throughout the night. It is our expectation that everything will be back to running normally by the time everyone arrives to work on Tuesday morning.

At noon, on Friday, May 23, all of our servers will be shutdown so that we may replace our Uninterrruptible Power Supply (UPS). Our current UPS was put in place when the CTC moved into Tomanek Hall (Aug, 1995). It has basically reached its capacity and the maintenance costs are escalating which has necessitated this upgrade. After the servers are shutdown, the installation vendor will have to do some electrical rewiring, install the hardware, and reconnect all of our servers. They expect this to take at least a full day. We are hopeful that all systems will be back online Saturday night, May 24. We are looking at some alternative power options for a few critical servers so that we can minimize downtime for Blackboard, Tigertracks, etc. but we cannot make any guarantees to system availabity over this weekend.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate everyone's patience during these major infrastructure upgrades.
