Fort Hays Chapter
of the Sigma Xi research society, the Graduate School,
and
the Office of the Provost will be sponsoring the sixth
annual Science Research Showcase.

- The event offers an opportunity for all faculty
and students engaged in scientific research to exhibit their work
and for everyone in the FHSU community to see the exciting research
being done on campus. Awards will also be made for the best posters
in three categories (undergraduate student, graduate student,
and faculty) with cash prizes for the student categories. A panel
of senior and retired faculty will judge the posters.
- Requirements:
- * Posters may describe any scientific research
that was performed in the past year by a Fort Hays State University
student or faculty member. Collaborations with researchers outside
FHSU are acceptable, as long as the first author and presenter
of the poster is an FHSU student or faculty member.
- * The maximum size for a poster display is 47 inches
tall by 47 inches wide.
- * Posters need not be a single continuous sheet
of paper. Posters made in separate pieces are acceptable.
- * You must have your poster displayed by 9 a.m.
on the day of the Showcase (April 25, 2007). The Black and Gold
Ballroom will be open beginning at 8 a.m. for you to put up your
poster.
- *You must be at your poster either from 9 a.m.
to 11 a.m. or from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the day of the showcase
so that you can describe you work and poster to the judges.
- *In order to prepare a program, and to make sure
that sufficient poster frames are available, we require that
each
presenter submit a form with their poster information. The form
is included below, and must be returned
no later than 5 p.m. on April 19.

- Suggestions for a good
poster:
- *Easily legible from a distance of 5 to 6 feet
- *Follows a logical sequence
- *Contains a logical sequence
- *Fully describes work (backgrounds, methods, data,
conclusions)
*Poster maximum size 120 x 120 cm (47 x 47 inches)

- Preparation:
- *You may produce your poster using any technique
you like.
- *Check with you department to see if they will
cover the costs of producing you poster. Some department (particularly
Biology and Geosciences) have agreed to do so for their faculty
and students. In these cases, make sure to talk to the departmental
contact (Dr. Finck or Dr. Dorn) before printing your poster.
