Sternberg Museum plan for severe weather conditions

  • If the university is to be closed, the museum also will close. The Director of University Relations will make the announcements to the media for both the university and the museum.
  • If the university opts not to hold classes but asks staff to report for work if possible, the museum will be closed but all staff members except the visitor services staff should report to work if possible. The Director of University Relations will make the announcements to the media for both the university and the museum.
  • If the university remains open for classes but announces that evening classes have been canceled, the museum will remain open to the public during the day and staff members should keep their normal work schedules. During the afternoon, the Museum Director or Assistant Director will decide whether or not to close early in the evening, and the Assistant Director will be responsible for notifying the media (in his absence, the Reservations Manager will assume this responsibility).
  • If a special event of the museum coincides with a weather emergency, the Director (or, in his absence, the Assistant Director) will be responsible for deciding whether to hold the event, postpone it, or cancel it. The Assistant Director will be responsible for notifying the media (in his absence, the Reservations Manager will assume this responsibility).
  • Whenever the university is closed, a voice mail message to that effect will be put on 4286. The Assistant Director will be responsible for doing this or assigning this task to whomever can get to the museum.
