The College of Education and Technologies Graduate Department offers the Master of Science Degree in Education in the following areas:

Counseling

The graduate programs in counseling are designed to prepare prospective counselors in the competencies necessary for success in the counseling profession. The program consists of two major areas of concentration: Community Counseling and School Counseling.

The Master of Science in Counseling requires 48 semester hours of graduate study. The practicum experience is three semester hours and the internship is six. Both are required as a part of the degree sequence.

Educational Administration

The programs in educational administration  prepare prospective school administrators  in the  competencies necessary for success as a building principal (Master Degree) and/or superintendent (Endorsement). The programs consist of two levels of instruction. The master’s degree is intended to provide basic preparation for building leadership, vocational-technical, and district leadership. The second level of instruction is intended to provide advanced preparation and additional training required of unified school district superintendents, central office administrators, and special education directors.

Instructional Technology

This graduate program prepares graduates to assume positions of leadership and instruction in instruction-based technology. Applicants to the program include teachers at all levels, computer educators, business training specialists, media specialists, video programmers, and information specialists.  Instructional Technology is an interdisciplinary program consisting of courses from the departments of Advanced Education Programs and Information Networking and Telecommunications.

Special Education

The Master of Science in Special Education offers teacher preparation programs to provide equitable and appropriate education for exceptional children and youth. This is a teacher preparation program leading to a Master of Science degree with a major in Special Education and endorsements available in Adaptive Special Education or in Gifted Education.

Reading Teacher Certificate

This  certificate is designed for practicing teachers who wish to increase their knowledge of reading and writing strategies and materials used in PK-12 classrooms. Reading and writing mean more than knowing how to put letters together to form words, sentences and paragraphs. It means comprehending, constructing and critically synthesizing principles and concepts. For teachers, pupil mastery of reading and writing is the difference between students who barely get by or drop out, and those who excel and proceed to higher levels of academic achievement.

Literary Coach Certificate

This program is designed to  enhance practicing teachers’ proficiency in a set of core conceptual competencies and skills in the area of reading and writing. Teachers desiring to participate in this program must hold a valid teaching license with a minimum of two years of full time teaching experience by the completion of this program. THIS IS NOT A LICENSURE PROGRAM

Transition to Teaching (T2T)

The T2T program is designed to fill teaching vacancies in school districts through an alternate route to teacher licensure. It includes the recruitment and training of mid-career professionals seeking a career change to enter the teaching profession. The T2T program uses the restricted license and has developed an on-line professional education curriculum meeting all of the Kansas Professional Education Standards.  With additional credit hours, this program can lead to a Master of Science in Education degree.
