WHAT
IS FMA?
FMA
is a professional organization of financial executives, analysts,
professors and students who live and work in New York, Chicago,
San Francisco, Dallas, Hong Kong, London, Montreal -- in fact, around
the world. FMA is the ONLY organization which has been successful
in bringing together students, professors, and professionals for
their mutual benefit.
WHAT
DOES FMA DO FOR STUDENTS?
FIRST,
student membership entitles you to a free copy of the booklet, Careers
in Finance, a collection of over 30 job descriptions supplied by
leading practitioners across the nation. Careers in Finance offers
"inside information" about various types of jobs in finance,
the variety of decisions you will be making on the job, and the
education and experience prerequisites for specific positions.
SECOND,
student membership entitles you to a one-year subscription to the
Financial Management Collection. This newsletter-type publication
regularly features articles related to current research issues in
finance, specific career articles written by leading finance practitioners,
and useful information on career and professional development.
THIRD,
student membership entitles you to a FREE one-year subscription
to the association's journal, Financial Management. Financial
Management publishes articles which focus on the application
of theory to real problems and issues in corporate finance. Major
emphasis is placed on providing articles in a readable fashion,
making Financial Management useful to practitioners as
well as academics.
LAST (AND PERHAPS MOST IMPORTANTLY), your membership in an FMA
Student Chapter establishes you as an integral part of a growing
network of finance practitioners - professionals who share their
common interests and knowledge about their careers, their practice,
the problems they face, and the solutions they develop. Membership
in a professional organization such as FMA not only enhances your
resume, it offers you something to take with you to a job interview
-- proof of your interest in your discipline, willingness to stay
on the cutting edge of finance, and evidence that you understand
the vital role professional affiliations play in succeeding in your
chosen career. Employers not only know the importance of professional
commitment, they prove it through their continued affiliation with
organizations such as FMA throughout their careers. Show them that
you know it too!
WHAT
FMA DOES DO TO RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING FINANCE STUDENTS?
The
FMA National Honor Society was established in 1974 to encourage
and reward scholarship and achievement in finance among undergraduate
and graduate students at colleges throughout the United States,
Canada, and Great Britain. The FMA National Honor Society is the
ONLY national honorary which specifically recognizes outstanding
achievement in the discipline of finance.
WHAT
ELSE CAN FMA OFFER ME?
Each
spring, FMA hosts an annual meeting specifically for its student
members. The program typically consists of panels of distinguished
finance professionals; workshops on careers, networking, and chapter
management strategies; and, informal receptions to offer students
the opportunity to meet leading finance professionals.
FMA
sponsors an annual awards program designed to recognize and reward
outstanding chapter activities and programs. FMA awards points in
the areas of membership development, career development activities,
professional activities, social activities, honorary activities,
and participation in the FMA Professional/Alumni National Honor
Society and Outstanding Financial Executive programs.
DEPENDING
ON WHAT YOUR COLLEGE'S CHAPTER CHOOSES TO DO, YOU MAY EXPECT:

professionals in your area on career development and current finance
issues.
- Study Groups/Tutoring Services to assist you in
developing your own study and learning strategies and in expanding
and sharing your knowledge.
