American Express Planning Invitational 2001 National Champions
Rory Terry (advisor), Jeff Schneider, Blake Allen, Damon Maughan

Blake Allen, Damon Maughan, and Jeffrey Schneider returned home from the second annual American Express Planning Invitational, a competition for financial planning students, as National Champions. The three financial planning and accounting double majors were notified in March 2001 that they qualified to compete at the national competition held in Minneapolis from April 26-29, 2001. Fort Hays State University won the national championship by placing first in the written case competition and oral presentation and second in the quiz show competition. Fort Hays competed against five other universities including Kansas State University, Cal-State Fullerton, Minnesota State University at Mankato, Western Carolina State University, and the University of North Texas. For its first place finish, Fort Hays was awarded the grand prize of $10,000 in scholarship money to be used for its financial planning program. The students each won $800.
