Rebecca Skrdlant, Deb Ostweiler (American Express Financial Advisors
representative), Jamie Heiman, Aaron Thomas, Tom Johansen (advisor)

Students Jamie Heiman, a financial planning and accounting double major from Baileyville; Rebecca Skrdlant, a financial planning major from Norton; and Aaron Thomas, a finance major from Cimarron, represented Fort Hays State University at the American Express Planning Invitational national competition in Huntington Beach, California in April 2003. The students did a remarkable job in preparing for and competing at the invitational, coming home with the third place trophy and $1,000 in scholarship money for the FHSU financial planning program. Each team member also received $200 in prize money. Fort Hays competed with 30 teams from across the nation and were one of only six teams to be invited to the final round of competition in California. Other schools making it to the final round were Baylor University, Kansas State University, Texas Tech University, Virginia Tech University, and Western Carolina State University.
