Second Annual English Department Writing Contests

The English Department is pleased to announce a writing contest for essays and research papers written in English 101: Composition I and English 102: Composition II. Students who took either of these courses in Fall 2007 or are taking them in Spring 2008 are eligible to enter their work to the appropriate contest. During Research and Creative Activity Week in April, first and second prizes (consisting of glory and money!) will be awarded in two categories, one for the best essay from an English 101 course and one for the best research essay from an English 102 course.

The deadline for entry is December 13, 2007 for students taking English 101 or 102 in Fall 2007. For those taking English 101 or 102 in Spring 2008, the deadlines are March 28, 2008 for the English 101 contest and April 4, 2008 for the English 102 contest. Essays must be accompanied by the contest submission form (available here) and should not have the writer's name on the essay itself. Please note that the submission form asks for the signature of the course's instructor. Submit all essays to Ms. Brenda Craven in Rarick 361 or in the English Department office, Rarick 370.
