Do I need an appointment?
No--but you are taking the chance that all of the
consultants might be busy and not have time for you, but you are
welcome to chance it.
 Can I drop off my paper so you can correct it and then
I can just pick it up when you're done?
Nice try! But the answer is no. Your work is your responsibility;
however, we are a great free resource for helping you learn how
to spot your mistakes and how to correct them.
Can I come just once?
Sure! It's entirely up to you. If you have a long
assignment, you will probably find that several visits will give
you a better chance of covering a variety of possible problems.
Often, students find that talking to someone else helps them decide
on a topic or even define their topics. Please don't wait until
the day your paper is due--you probably won't have time to correct
it before class.
 Can you improve my writing?
As a result of your work with us, your writing is bound to improve.
The more you work with us, the more likely you are to find the
writer inside of you.
Do I need to take an English course to
visit the Writing Center?
Nope. We're happy to help you with your writing in
any academic subject. Good writing is good writing, no matter the
subject. When you visit, please bring a copy of the assignment sheet
for the paper or project you are working on. That way, we will have
some sense of your prof's expectations and requirements. And don't
forget--we can help with writing that's not even for a class (like
scholarship applications, for instance).
