FORT HAYS STATE UNIVERSITY
The Admissions Counselors are responsible for the development and implementation of an effective student recruitment program within a specified region. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Counselors must be goal oriented and have the ability to organize time and tasks. Weekend and evening work and extensive overnight travel are required. Bachelor's degree required and Fort Hays State University graduate preferred.
Counselors act and make decisions independently on a regular basis. Recruitment/Marketing strategies are either self initiated or suggested by the Director or others on staff. The counselors work is taken to completion with little or no direct supervision. Admissions Counselors cultivate as much interest as possible in the University. Once interest is generated, the counselor strives for individualized assistance to each prospective student. Effective integration of components within the enrollment management team is essential. This includes Admissions, Residential life, Financial Aid, all academic colleges, University Relations, the Alumni Association and current students (particularly Admissions’ student assistants). The counselor and FHSU representatives work with prospective students and their family members to encourage enrollment through correspondence, high school/community college visitations, telecounseling, campus visits/tours, social media and other recruitment events. Communication with applicants concerning individual needs (including Financial Aid and Housing), admissions status, and orientation/advisement/registration processes to ensure enrollment is essential. The Counselor also assists the Office of Student Affairs with Transfer and Freshman Enrollment Days.
High School/Community College Public Relation Skills/Publications
Work with traditional, part time, transfer, minority, and nontraditional students. Community guest speaker; coordinate visitations to high schools and community colleges; representative at College Planning Conferences (CPC'S); visit businesses and adult education settings; coordinator of events for on campus visitations for prospective students and their family members. Have close working relationship with all high school counselors in designated area. Assist in creating, designing, and writing brochures.
Know and assist with all Office of Admissions operations. Working knowledge of on line computer database program for tracking of prospective students. Responsible for travel expenditures and general operational budgets pertaining to recruitment area. Establish annual goals and objectives. Participate in informal on going evaluation and training. Membership in state and regional professional organizations. Responsible for other duties as assigned.

Salary is $30,000 with a bachelor’s degree and $33,000 with a master’s degree, plus benefits. Starting date is negotiable.
