Position Overview

The International Student Admissions Coordinator position is responsible for coordinating student admissions and providing outstanding customer service and support.  This position responds to student requests for information, maintains regular communication with prospective students and applicants, processes and evaluates all international applications for admission and supporting academic credentials (secondary and post-secondary foreign credentials) to determine admissibility and prepares all necessary admission and immigration documents required for admitted students.  The position helps to provide comprehensive support to Fort Hays State University international students from admission to arrival on campus and enrollment.  Some travel domestically and internationally may be required.  This is a twelve-month unclassified position that offers the right person an outstanding opportunity to join a dynamic team of professionals that work in the FHSU Division of Student Affairs.  The International Student Admissions Coordinator reports to the Director of International Student Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate international admissions process for all ESL, undergraduate and graduate students both on-campus and virtually, to ensure consistent, high quality and efficient collection and processing of application and admission documents.
  • Coordinate international admission process for students in the cross-border partnership programs and/or working on degrees through distance education.
  • Provide outstanding personalized customer service, including responding to all student admission and program inquiries or requests for information within a timely manner.
  • Prepare and issue all student immigration documents, including forms I-20AB and DS-2019 and documents for travel, transfer, employment verification, practical training and other benefits; assist in system compliance within SEVIS as required by USCIS.
  • Assist with maintaining records and quantitative data on international students and their enrollment; and assist with tracking the academic progress of these students and their retention.
  • Provide assistance in international student recruitment by working closely with the International Student Services, Registrar's, Graduate School, Strategic Partnerships and Admissions Offices.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all new international students until they are admitted and enrolled virtually or they arrive to campus for orientation and enrollment in classes.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with FHSU faculty and other university departments and offices in matters affecting international student recruitment and admissions.
  • Engage in ongoing assessment and evaluation of international student admission processes and procedures.
  • Ability to manage and supervise student employees.
  • Ability to navigate the University information system database.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy office environment.
  • Experience communicating the needs of the international community with academic and campus support offices.
  • A commitment to diversity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse persons is required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, particularly with speakers of English as a second language.


  • A Bachelor's degree in education, international studies, student personnel, or related field is required; Master’s degree in counseling, education administration, international studies, student personnel or related field is preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residence status so as to comply with the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security’s requirements in order to create and sign immigration documents.
  • Experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), which includes creating I-20 and DS-2019 documents in SEVIS and making updates is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret federal regulations and exercise good judgment while applying them.  Considerable knowledge of immigration laws and regulations is preferred.
  • Experience in working with international students in a higher education setting is strongly preferred.
  • A leadership style that promotes teamwork, enhances creativity and builds consensus is preferred.


Salary range is $32,000 to $35,000 plus a benefit package commensurate with experience will be offered.
