Education:  The System Administrator must have a bachelor’s degree or higher.  It is preferable that the degree be in an I.T. related field of interest.  Having either a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification or a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) certification would be beneficial.

Qualifications/Experience:  Two or more years of technical experience is required.  This individual must have a proven track record for effective problem solving, must be a self-starter, self-reliant, resourceful, must be able to effectively assess risk and must be able to make creative leaps in reasoning.  Additionally, this individual must have the ability to work cooperatively within a group and must be willing to become involved in problem resolution.  Experience with the following is highly recommended: Installing/maintaining Windows servers, managing an Active Directory infrastructure, installing/maintaining/and using MS SQL servers, administering VMWare’s vSphere and VMWare hosts, managing a storage area network (like EMC’s VNX SAN storage or similar)or Network Accessible Storage.  Basic network (TCP/IP) skills are also required.  An understanding of the integration of various directory services, PCI Compliance, and various integrative services are a plus.  Additionally, proficiency with powershell in the creation or modification of system programs would be a plus.

Position Description:  This is a full time, 12 month, permanent staff position located in the Computing and Telecommunication Center at Fort Hays State University.  The position is unclassified, but non-tenured.  The Systems Administrator receives vacation, sick leave, and other fringe benefits as determined by the FHSU Personnel Office.  This position will report to the Assistant Director for Infrastructure and Support Systems in the Computing and Telecommunications Center.  Normal work hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday – Friday, but occasionally the job duties will require work to be outside of those normal hours.

The person in this position will be part of a team that manages numerous virtual and physical servers, relational databases including Microsoft SQL, smaller-scale Oracle instances and MySQL instances, Microsoft IIS and the many applications affiliated with those instances and their hosting servers.  Primarily, this position will deal with Windows servers and its associated applications and infrastructure, but occasionally may require some Linux, Mac OS, or other operating system integration.  This includes, but is not limited to, installation, configuration and maintenance of operating systems and their hosted database instances, installing, configuring and maintaining applications supported by those database instances, monitoring performance of systems, interacting with vendor support for hardware and software issues, designing maintenance procedures that ensure system integrity and availability, and assisting other application support individuals when necessary.  Infrastructure duties include administering, maintaining, and designing the FHSU Active Directory infrastructure, administering and maintaining the virtual data center, administering and maintaining the storage area network and its various components, and supporting the system side of a myriad of applications.  The person in this position will be expected to continually learn new technology, and adapt to the ever changing IT environment at FHSU.  Finally, this System Administrator will embrace the university’s commitment to diversity, will protect the confidentiality of sensitive information, and complete other duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned by the Assistant Director of Infrastructure and Support Services.

Salary:  commensurate with experience and qualifications.
