014 entitled Reading and Study Skills for College Students as a
non-general education course within the Education curriculum

Resolution: Resolved, the Faculty Senate endorses the support
of the Associated Students of Kansas (ASK) in its efforts to encourage
individual students to “Be a HERO” for higher education by writing,
calling or visiting the Governor and State Legislators on behalf
of the Margin of Excellence funding proposal. In addition,
the Senate approves the language in the attached draft advertisement
as a way of demonstrating its appreciation of continued student
efforts in support of the Margin of Excellence.

Resolution: Resolved, The Fort Hays State University Faculty
Senate hereby expresses strong displeasure with the Employees Health
Care Commission’s recommended changes in state health care coverage,
which entail new monthly fees and a 60- day waiting period for new
employees. Both of these modifications are seen by the FHSU
Senate as highly detrimental to the University and its ability to
recruit teachers of excellence.

Resolution: Cultural Events Attendance Proposal
(1) All faculty members are strongly encouraged to support
attendance at campus (and community) cultural events by personal
example and by encouraging their students to attend. The instructors
of culturally-related General Education courses are especially encouraged
to include discussion of these events in their classes before and/or
after they take place.
(2A) Attendance at four or more cultural events per semester
should be recoganized on the student’s transcript with a grade of
A inb a non-credit Interdisciplinary Studies course, “Cultural Events
Attendance.”
(2B) The specific events to be included in this program shall
be selected by a University-wide student-faculty committee, appointed
by the Provost, from among co-curricular activities such as art
gallery and museum exhibition openings, plays, lecture, concerts,
operas, films, coffee-houses, etc.
