Recommendation: To approve Helath and Human Performance 239,
Aquatics Safty
The following description should be substituted for the description
on application for a new course:
3 cr hrs. Non-general education. Prerequisite: intermediate
swimming level or permission. Provides the participant with
the knowledge and skills necessary to cope with the emergency situations
in the aquatic environment. Completion of this course
results in American Red Cross certification in Basic Water Safety,
Emergency Water Safety, Intermediate Swimmer, and Introduction to
Health Services Education. Prerequisite for Water Safety Instructor
and Lifeguard Training and Lifeguard Instructor courses. Not
intended as end-point training for lifeguarding jobs.

Lifegaurd Training and lifeguard Instructor.
The following description should be substituted for the description
on application for a new course.
3 cr. Hrs. Non-general education. Prerequisite: Health
and Human Performance 239 and completion or concurrent enrollment
in Standard First Aid 220 (or Red Cross certified equivalent) and
minimum of 17 years of age, or permission. Successful completion
of this course leads to American Red Cross certification.
Prerequisites are Aquatics Safety 239 and completion or concurrent
enrollment in Standard First Aid 220, or in lieu of these prerequisite
courses, current American Red Cross certification in Standard First
Aid, Emergency Water Safety, and Introduction to Health Services
Education.

Recommendation: TO approve Helath and Human Performance 240,
Water Safty Instructor.
The following description should be substituted for the description
on application for a new course:
3 cr. Hrs. Non-general education. Prerequisite: Health
and Human Performances 239 or permission. Trains instructor
candidates to teach the American Red Cross water safty and swimming
courses at al levels except lifeguard training. Emphasis on
teaching procedures, mechanics of stroke execution, and improvement
of personal swimming skills. Swimming skills are evaluated
at the Advanced Swimmer Level.

Recommendation: To approve Business Administration 203, 204,
305, 306, 307, 560, and 740:
ACCT 203: Financial Accounting. Non-general education
4 hrs. Prerequisites: CIQM 101 or equivalent. The study of
accounting as a means of communicating financial information about
a business enterprise. Emphasis is placed on the basic concepts
used in preparing and interpreting external financial statements.
ACCT 204: Managerial Accounting. Non-general education.
3 hrs. Prerequisites: ACCT 203. A study of basic
managerial accounting conc epts and practices with emphasis on interpretation
of accounting as a information system to aid management in the decision
making process.
ACCT 305: Intermediate Accounting I. Non-general education.
3 hrs. Prerequisite: ACCT 204. Presents an overview
of the foundation of accounting theory, a study of the accounting
cycle, financial statements and mathematical principles. A
comprehensive study of current assets is made.
ACCT 306: Intermediate Accounting II. Non –general education.
3 hrs. Prerequisite: ACCT 305. Continuation of
accounting 305. Covers Fixed Assets, Depreciation and Depletion,
Intangible Assets, Recognition and Measurement of Liabilities, Stockholders’
Equity, Dilutive Securities and Investments.

Recommendation: To approve changing Agriculture 320 from:
AGRI 320: Grain Handling and Accounting. Non-general
education. 2 hrs. A two-part course which examines A.
Physical Grain Handling, including Storage, Marketing and Transportation
and B. Grain Accounting for a typical ocmmercial Grain Elevator.
To
AGRI 320: Fundamentals of Agriculture Commodity Marketing.
Non-general education. 3 hrs. A study of agricultural
commodity marketing, transportation and storage, using the agricultural
futures and options markets. Prerequisites: AGRI 211,
ECFI 201, or permission of the instructor.

AGRI 521/721: Weed Science. Non-general education.
2 hrs. Prerequisites: AGRI 112 and CHEM 102 or 120, concurrent
enrollment in AGRI 521 lab. Principles and practices of weed
control.
To the same as above except with the replacement of “2 hrs.” by
“3 hrs.”

Recommendation: To approve Health and Human Performance 560/760
HHP 560/760: Internship in Human Performance. Non-generla
education. 1 to 12 hours enrolled in more than once for up
to 12 hours of credit. Prerequisites: Permission of
department chair. Provides off-campus opportunity for practical
application of student’s area of major emphasis. The student
will work in private and/or public organizations.

Recommendation: To approve History 132:
HIST 132: Survey of United States History. Non-general
education. 3 hrs. Prerequisites: none. A
survey of united States history from the colonial period to the
present. Required of all history majors who do not either
(A) receive a minimum score of 75% on the departmentally administered
competency exam in American History or (B) successfully complete
History 130 and 131 or the equivalent.

Recommendation: To approve Physics 100:
PHYS 100: Introduction to Engineering Science. Non-general
education. 1 hre. The course will survey the various
fields of science and engineering and introduces students to the
principles of the professions. Films, field trips, and lectures
by faculty and practicing engineers will be utilized.

Recommendation: To approve changing Nursing 240 from
NURS 240: Introduction to Pharmacology. Non-general
education. 1 hr. Prerequisites: Completion of Freshman
nursing year, permission. This course covers legal and professional
parameters of medication administration by nurses and provides introductory
content concerning drugs, drug classification, and administration
methods.

Recommendation: to approve the following resolution:
WHEREAS, Fort Hays State Univeristy generally places a percentage
of the OOE budget in reserve each fiscal year;
WHEREAS, this policy places undue hardship on faculty and
staff in ordering and procuring of materials for Forsyth Library;
BE IT RESOLVED that the faculty Senate of Fort Hays State Univeristy
endorses a concept to fully fund the OOE budget for FY 91 for Forsyth
Library with no reserve placed on the budget. |
