Recommendation:  Item 1.  The Senate recommends and approves a proposal to change the name of the Department of Industrial Education to the Department of Technology Studies.

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate unanimously endorses the petition circulated by the Classified Senate that stated a strong objection to current parking regulations that require all members of a family, or all members in a carpool, to have parking permits even when they ride together.  The problem occurs, especially in a family, when one of the members drives alone.

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate strongly recommends that the FHSU Commencement ceremonies be changed from Friday Evening to Saturday morning after final examination week and scheduled such that the ceremony takes no more than 90 minutes and is over by noon.

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate recommends that he FHSU Affirmative Action statement be broadened to include the words “sexual orientatiaon: as follows:

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate recommends that in addition to the FHSu Saturday morning Commencement ceremony for undergraduates, the ceremony for graduate students take place at Bench-Schmidt auditorium on Friday evening of finals week.  Faculty are encouraged but not required to attend both ceremonies.

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate recommends approval of the concept of the Leadership studies Program.  Approval of specific courses in the program must await the submission of those courses.

Recommendation:  the Faculty Senate recommends the following courses for inclusion in the General Education Program (Foundation Studies).  The courses are submitted together as one recommendation because they are all existing courses in the curriculum.

The Senate Motion approving the above courses also included the caveat that students be allowed to enroll in MACS 101 with permission from the department chair, in addition to other avenues for students to gain admission into the course.

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate recommends approval of the following new courses (not general education).  Please note change of name of courses.  BSAH 415 Ultrasound OB/GYN Procedures (4) – Designed to emphasize the physics of ultrasound and scanning techniques for optimal visualization in OB/GYN and pelvic medical diagnostic ultrasound examinations.  Primary emphasis will be on pelvic and fetal ultrasound practices.
BSAH 416:  Ultrasound Physics and Abdominal Procedures (4)  Designed to emphasize the physics of ultrasound and scanning techniques for abdominal medical diagnostic ultrasound examinations.  Primary emphasis will be on liver, gallbladder, abdominal vasculature, and kidney ultrasound practices.

INTS 201  Introduction to Leadership concepts (3).  This course will actively engage students in the acquisition of information about historical and contemporary theories, concepts, and issues associated with leadership.  Students will be exposed to the nature of leadership through presentation of objective material, through group activities, and through laboratory exercises.  118-201-0-4901

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate recommends approval of the following new course:  EFCI 450  Financial Planning (3).  A comprehensive study of the concepts and techniques of financial planning.  Topics include: the role of financial planner, legal and ethical requirements, developing a financial plan, economic analysis, insurance analysis, investment analysis, tax planning, estate and retirement planning.  403-450-0-0504

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate recommends approval of the following new course:
HHP 290  Introduction to coaching (2).  This course will introduce the general philosophy and methods of coaching.  Various topics to prepare the individual for the task of coaching, such as sport science, sport psychology, and sport management, will be included.  Successful completion of the course may lead to certification by the American Coaching Effectiveness Program (ACEP).  331-290-0-0835

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate recommends that the Personal Wellness course (HHP 200) be allowed to fulfill partial credit for the PE requirement for students under the old General Education Program as well as for those under the new program.

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate recommends that, as in past years, the faculty form two welcome lines at the Commencement ceremony to welcome the graduates as they file into the coliseum.
Rationale:  Many faculty were upset that the welcome lines were eliminated this year.  Forming the lines takes a few extra minutes but if the recommendation to have the Graduate Commencement on Friday evening is accepted then the additional three to four minutes will not be a problem.

Recommendation:  The Faculty Senate strongly recommends that the Graduate Commencement ceremony be held on Friday evening at Beach-Schmidt Auditorium (at least on a trial basis).  Please see the attachment for an explanation of this recommendation.
