Recommendation: Faculty senate recommends the following change
in policy:
Students may withdraw from full-semester course up to the end of
the fifth week of classes. Students withdrawing during this
time period will not receive any notation on their transcript.
After the fifth week, students may then withdraw from classes until
the end of the tenth week with either a withdrawal passing (WP)
or withdrawal failing (WF) noted on their transcript. No withdrawal
will be allowed after the tenth week of classes.

Whereas, in its present form as proposed by SAC, the Course Information
Questionnaire does not provide effective information about courses,
the Faculty Senate does not support the adoption of a Course Information
Questionnaire at this time.

Be it resolved that the Fort Hays State Univeristy faculty supports
President Hammond’s position that the university will not respond
to any legislative inquiries like the one dated February 19, 1998,
or any future similar inquiries that potentially violate academic
freedom or discriminating against any segment of the university
community.

Faculty Senate Recommends
Whereas the rise of technology based distance education courses
means that FHSU is in a national and global market for the delivery
of courses and degree programs, and whereas, there is a strong need
for name recognition to compete with other better known universities.
The Faculty Senate recommends that President Hammond appoint a committee
to explore changing the name of Fort Hays State University. Two
suggestions for the new name are “Eisenhower State University” or
“University of Western Kansas”
