| What is Federal Work-Study? |
| Federal Work-Study is a federally subsidized
program designed to promote part-time employment for undergraduate
or graduate students in the Financial Aid program. |
| |
| How do I apply for Federal Work-Study?
|
| In order to be eligible for Federal Work-Study,
you must submit a completed Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA). Applying early for any form of financial assistance
is recommended because funding is limited. |
| |
| I have been awarded Federal Work-Study,
what should I do next? |
| Your Federal Work-Study award will be listed
as part of your financial aid package on your FHSU Award Letter.
At this time, you will need to contact the Student Employment
Office (SEO) in Custer Hall to receive additional information
about Federal Work-Study job opportunities. You are not automatically
placed in a specific job simply because you were awarded Federal
Work-Study. |
| |
| After visiting with the Student Employment
Office, how do I accept my Federal Work-Study award?
|
| If you decide to accept your Federal Work-Study
award, please sign and return your award letter to the Financial
Assistance Office as soon as possible. You must also be enrolled
in a minimum of six credit hours. |
| |
| I found a job! Is there anything else
I need to do? |
| Once you have been hired, you must return to
the Student Employment Office in Custer Hall, Third Floor, to
complete employment paperwork. For payroll purposes, the substance
abuse policy statement, W-4 form, K-4 form, and I-9 form must
be filled out as soon as possible. Federal law requires this
paperwork must be completed before you begin employment. You
will also need to bring the following personal documents to
determine employment eligibility: (1) social security card or
birth certificate; and (2) driver's license or Tiger card; or
(3) U.S. passport, when applicable. After this paperwork is
completed, you may begin your new job! Congratulations and good
luck! |
| |
| How do I get paid? |
After you have completed all the necessary
paperwork in the Student Employment Office (SEO), you will
be set up on the student payroll system. Effective June
15, 2008, the student employment wage is $7.25 per hour.
Paydays are every other Friday. Starting with the summer
2006 payroll, FHSU uses EFT (electronic fund transfer)
as the payroll distribution process. You may select to
have your earnings deposited to your Tiger Card or to the
bank account of your choice. You may complete a direct deposit
form (voided check required) at the SEO to establish your
direct deposit. Your pay advice will be mailed to your local
address, so you will want to be sure to keep this address
current in Tiger
Tracks. |
| |
| How do I decline my Federal Work-Study
award? |
| If you are awarded Federal Work-Study but do
not intend or are unable to use it, you will need to cancel
your award immediately. To do this, you must sign and return
your financial aid award letter indicating you want to decline
the Federal Work-Study award. You may choose to apply for other
campus employment programs at this time. |
| |
| What if I did not receive Federal Work-Study? |
| If you were not awarded Federal Work-Study but
are still interested in campus employment, it is your responsibility
to contact the Student Employment Office for other job opportunities.
The SEO staff can visit with you concerning your eligibility.
You may also request that your name be added to the work-study
waiting list in the Student Employment Office. The waiting list
is an option available for students who are eligible for Federal
Work-Study but were not originally awarded. Students are awarded
from the waiting list as funding and positions become available. |
