How to Apply for Student Signature Loans

Signature Student Loans For Distance Learners
Fort Hays State University and Sallie Mae have teamed up to provide a quick and convenient loan-funding source, ideal for distance learners. Signature Loans offer a quick yet competitive lending alternative to the federal loan process. Even so, Federal Stafford Loans and Perkins Loans are typically a better borrowing option long term. Remember, signature loans can effect your federal aid eligibility, so be sure a signature loan is right for you. Click here to find out more about applying for federal aid and federal loans at FHSU.

If you are looking for a quick and competitive loan source, the Sallie Mae Signature Loan for FHSU students is for you!

  • Variable interest rates as low as Prime + 0% with no fees
  • No payments while in school, and up to 25 years to pay it back
  • Great benefits during repayment, including internship and residency deferments

Visit the Sallie Mae web site to find out more about Signature Loans including minimum and maximum (cost of attendance minus other financial aid) limits, Annual Percentage Rates and repayment options. Remember, Federal Loans may still be the best option for you, but Signature Loans are a competitive option. If you have applied for federal aid, we encourage you to contact the Financial Assistance Office to verify your eligibility for Stafford Loan funds prior to completing a signature loan application.

Apply Online!
Apply now using the Sallie Mae web site and to access Sallie Mae's Laureate® loan processing system. Complete the online application and get pre-approved in less than 5 minutes. Co-borrowers can apply online, too! If you have any questions after completing your pre-approval application, please call Sallie Mae at 800/695-3317.

You can apply for a Signature Student Loan if you are admitted to FHSU as a degree seeking student, have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and will enroll at least half time. No income is required for student borrowers. Those with established credit may be eligible without a co-borrower. Most freshmen, all foreign students, and those with low credit or no credit history will need a co-borrower.

You can borrow up to the total cost of your education, minus any other aid, as determined by the FHSU Financial Assistance Office. Cost of attendance includes tuition, fees, room and board, computer and other education-related expenses. (Lifetime maximum is $100,000.)

As the charts below show, interest rates and fees for the Signature Student Loan are low, and they reward borrowers who have the best credit. In addition, for borrows who have a creditworthy co-borrower, the Signature Student Loan offers even lower rates and fees.
