Ethics and Infringement
Disclaimer
FHSU provides students with both on and off campus Internet access.
This can be a great asset to educational experiences. FHSU is happy
to be able to provide such services to students.
A number of students use FHSU's connections
regularly to "surf
the web." You should be aware that downloading copyrighted
materials, especially music, videos and/or games from
the Internet can be a violation of copyright laws.
You should also be aware that technology has
made great progress in sniffing out violations. FHSU has received
a number of "takedown" requests under various copyright
laws from companies who have used sniffer programs to find a violation.
FHSU
must react to stop the offense if the downloading takes place through
any FHSU provided access. Remember, FHSU may provide access either
on or off campus.
Students, please be advised: if FHSU receives
a future copyright infringement notice on an ethernet connection
registered to you, to your apartment or to your residence hall
room, FHSU will disable your connection for a period of no less
than two
weeks and impose other appropriate sanctions. If additional notices
are received that indicate repeat offenses, you may be denied
any
or all future ethernet access.
