Interlibrary Loan
Making
an Interlibrary Loan Request
Interlibrary Loan is a special service provided to
assist faculty, staff, and students in obtaining research materials that
are not owned by Forsyth Library. This service is
also provided to others with community cards.
Off-campus students (living outside of Hays) need to see the Distance
Services Department.
What Can Be Borrowed?
Just about anything that is circulating can be borrowed. The normal loan period for returnables (books, audio-visual material, microfilm, etc.) is four-six weeks, depending upon the policies of the lending library.
Most journal articles will arrive as PDF documents. Documents are posted to the campus server (via Ariel). You will receive email notification explaining how to access your document(s).
Charges
There are many free libraries from which to obtain research material.
However, if the lending library charges, we pass those charges on
to the patron who will be contacted before any materials are ordered.
Once ordered, the patron will be reponsible for the charges. The
library will cover most charges for faculty.
How Long Does It Take?
Books, videos, microfilm reels, and other returnables may take one to two weeks to arrive. Patrons will be notified by email when materials (with due dates) have been received. These items will need to be picked up, by the patron, in Interlibrary Loan.
Journal articles take a much shorter time to arrive -- many arriving within 24 hours, or less. We electronically post journal articles to a document-delivery web page, with email notification going to the patron.

Orders can be placed online by clicking
