Homesteading in Stafford County

Prentice, Noble Lovely. "History of Kansas". Winfield,
KS: E. P. Greer, 1899.
According to records of Stafford County
most of the settlers were of English or Scotch/Irish descent.
The Mormons first settled St. John city (St. John and Ohio townships)
and African-Americans also settled in St. John. African-Americans
were actually the first settlers in Stafford County.
There were two German settlements in
Stafford County also. One settled in West Cooper Township and
started the Calvary Baptist Church, which is still in existence.
The other settlement was in Hayes Township and the town of Hudson.
