SuDoc Classification System
Federal Government publications
in the Government Documents Collection are arranged by the Superintendent
of Documents classification number (SuDoc). Print publications are
grouped together by the issuing agency. Micro format, CD-ROM, and
on-line publications may use other classification methods. To ensure
that you find all of the materials available on a particular subject,
be sure to check the indexes recommended by Mac Reed, Assistant
Director of Technical Services and Government Documents Librarian.
The example below shows how the Superintendent of Documents classification
number
C 61.34:987
is constructed for the publication of U.S. Industrial Outlook.
C refers to the Commerce Department (which is the issuing agency)
61. refers to the International Trade Administration (the subordinate
bureau within the issuing
agency).
34: is the number designating the specific title of this document.
