Roemer Lobby & Circulation Desk (First Floor Entrance & Exits) <FL 103 - north> The Roemer Lobby is named in honor of Richard and Florence Roemer, library benefactors. It is a comfortable area for students to relax or meet in groups. Vending machines are also available in this area. The Circulation desk is a service area where all library materials are checked out, renewed, or returned. A valid FHSU student, faculty, or staff Tiger card is required to check out material. Also valid temporary cards (issued to high school students) or community patron cards are allowed. |

Coffee Bar The Roemer Lobby also houses the Library's coffee and cappuccino bar. In addition we also sell tea, spiced cider, and cocoa. Patrons can purchase drinks individually or obtain a punch card for either coffee or cappuccino. |

The Reserve Desk is the service area where all reserve material can be checked out. This material is usually needed for class assignments. Also, all of Forsyth Library's audio visual material is housed here. Other services for library patrons include lost and found, change, fine payment, and registration of community users. Reference (First Floor) If you need assistance with doing research, the Reference Desk is the place to come. The librarians can teach you how to use and locate items in the online catalog or to search for journal articles in the library's online electronic resources. The librarians are familiar with both print and online resources and can recommend materials that might contain the answer to particular questions. |

Reference (First Floor) Within the Reference Collection, are computer workstations where students can do research or work on papers and assignments. Some of the Library's collection of print indexes are located adjacent to the computer area. |

Electronic & Digital Systems (EDS) (First Floor) EDS oversees various systems in Forsyth Library, including the online catalog, Aquabrowser, hardware (including PCs & Macs), and related software. We troubleshoot any systems-related problems, manage digital collection development, and ensure that electronic media remain accessible for the FHSU community. |

Smart Study Room
(First Floor) Located behind the Dimensional Mediated Instruction Lab, this study room is equipped with a polycom set up for video conferencing along with a conference table for large groups. Also this study room gives the library patrons the ability to connect laptops to a large screen monitor for project collaboration. Students can also view videos and DVD's for class assignments. It can be reserved in advance. |

(First Floor) This study room is located near the Reference Desk and is equipped with a smart white board, flat screen monitor, video viewing equipment, and the ability to connect to a laptop or tablet computer. It is designed for small groups of 6 or less. It can be reserved in advance. |

This classroom and general computer lab supports the Library's bibliographic instruction program. The room has 18 workstations along with 2 flat screen television monitors (2 more in the future), and tables for group study. This lab is open for general use when there is not an instruction class scheduled. |

Center for Ethnic Studies
(First Floor) The Center for Ethnic Studies, contains a variety of pertinent reference works, bibliographies, and specialized studies, as well as pamphlets, journals, newspapers, and dissertations published in the United States and abroad. The Volga German Society of Ellis and Rush Counties, the Bukovina Society of the Americas, and the late Lawrence Weigel have played vital roles in developing the Center. |

Special Collections (First Floor) The Special Collections/Archives room has several different collections for the researcher. Subjects range from the history of the West to military history to genealogy. Hours are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm or by appointment with the archivist. |

Special Collections -- Catharine Village (First Floor) The model buildings on display in the Special Collections room are replicas of a number of houses and buildings in the town of Catharine, located northeast of Hays. The buildings include St. Catherine Church and the Catharine School. The builder, Jerome Schmidt, donated the models to Forsyth Library. They can be viewed during the hours the Special Collections room is open. |

Special Collections -- Western Collection The Western Collection contains fiction and primary material about Kansas and the American West. The collection covers various subjects with an emphasis on Western Kansas. Subjects included are frontier life on the Great Plains, railroads, Indians, and the cattle industry. Town and county history books and fiction books with a Kansas connection are also part of this collection. FHSU master's theses and the University Archives are also housed here. |

The Currey Collection covers the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnamese Conflict. Of particular note, the Archive includes two original letters of Benjamin Franklin. Books, journals, videotapes, audio cassettes, maps, papers and memorabilia comprise this archive. |

Interlibrary
Loan (First Floor) <FL 112> Interlibrary Loan is a special service provided to assist faculty, staff, and students in obtaining research materials that are not owned by Forsyth Library. This service is also provided to others with community cards.

Books, audio-visuals, microfilm, and other returnables may take one to two weeks to arrive. Most journal articles arrive within twenty-four hours, or less. Distance Services provides assistance to all virtual faculty and staff as well as on campus students that live outside the city of Hays. The staff will provide the same services that Interlibrary Loan provides for on campus students. Distance Services will ship books to students on a cost recovery basis. They will assist with limited research (with approval of professor) and provide telephone reference in conjunction with the Reference Department. |
