Writing
Center (Basement) The Fort Hays State University's Writing Center offers students free, individualized instruction in all aspects of writing. It is staffed by graduate and undergraduate tutors trained specifically to help students with their writing concerns. The Writing Center is maintained by the University English Department. |

Acquisitions (Basement) The acquisitions area of Forsyth Library is located on the west end of room 021 and is responsible for the order, receipt, and distribution of library materials. It is the budget unit in charge of financial record keeping with regard to encumbrance and expenditure of library funds. |

Cataloging (Basement) The cataloging unit of technical processing is charged with the responsibility for the cataloging and processing of library materials in the Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems. It is divided into two areas, one that catalogs monographic materials and the other serial publications. Cataloging also assists in preparation for periodicals that are to be shipped to the bindery along with mending. |

Electronic Resources / Serials (Basemen) This area of technical processing is charged with the acquisition and maintenance of electronic resources as well as periodicals. They process invoices for periodicals for payment by the acquisitions department. Preparing periodicals for the bindery is also one of Technical Processing's responsibilities. |

Harsh Juvenile Collection (Basement) The Harsh Juvenile Collection is Forsyth Library's anthology of children's literature. It is arranged in the Dewey Decimal classification system. It is primarily used by the children and young adult literature classes at the University. This collected works of juvenile books are named the Harsh Juvenile Collection after Donna Harsh, retired education professor from Fort Hays State University. Ms. Harsh donated a special children's literature collection to Forsyth Library, and because of her generous gift, the library dedicated, and named, FL Room 015 the Harsh Room. The Harsh Room also houses a portion of the juvenile books that continue from the FL 044 -- north area of Forsyth Library. |

Ms. Harsh donated a special children's literature collection to Forsyth Library, and because of her generous gift, the library dedicated, and named, Room 015 the Harsh Room. The Harsh Room also houses a portion of the juvenile books that continue from the FL 044 -- north area of Forsyth Library. These books are arranged in the Dewey Decimal classification system. The Harsh Room also houses and displays the Witucke's special collection of Little Red Riding Hood books. This collection was made possible by a gift from Ms. V. W. Witucke of Evanston, Illinois, and contain some 258 books, 64 in foreign languages, which tell the children's fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood. |
