Transfer Agreement and Atriculation Guide

In 1989, the Kansas Regents institutions and the accredited community colleges in Kansas consented to honor a transfer agreement to facilitate the transition of Kansas community college students to any of the Regents institutions. This policy was reviewed and renewed spring 1997.

Requirements

(1) Community college students must graduate from a Kansas community college with an associate of science or an associate of arts degree based on a baccalaureate oriented sequence (see FHSU University Catalog).

(2) Students must meet the following requirements: A minimum of 45 credit hours of general education with distribution in the following fields:

Twelve (12) hours of Basic Skills courses, including:
6 hours of English Composition
3 hours of Speech Communication
3 hours of College Level Mathematics
(Statistics will be required of transfer students where university curriculum requires it.)

Twelve (12) hours of Humanities courses from at least three of the following disciplines:
Art*
Theater*
Philosophy
Music*
History
Literature
*Performance/studio courses are excluded.

Twelve (12) hours of Social and Behavioral Science courses from at least three of the following disciplines:
Sociology
Psychology
Political Science
Economics
Geography
Anthropology

Nine (9) hours of Natural and Physical Science courses from at least two disciplines (lecture with lab). FHSU recognizes the above fields of the local community college even though they may differ from FHSU.

(3) Transcripts of students fulfilling the requirements of this agreement must be coded appropriately by the sending institution.

Benefits

Students automatically will be awarded junior status at any of the six Regents institutions.

Points of Clarification

(1) Students still may be required to take freshman or sophomore courses to meet degree or graduation requirements.

(2) All students completing a teacher education program at the university shall satisfy the general education requirement. Students will meet the new University General Education Program. In addition to the Foundation Studies courses, they must complete the following specific courses which are currently part of the General Education course requirements:

Hours
MATH 110 College Algebra or higher 3
MATH 250 Elements of Statistics 3
IDS 350 Multiculturalism in the United States (C grade or higher) 3
International Studies Core (2 of the 3 courses required):
ENG 125 World Literature and the Human Experience 3
GSCI 110 World Geography 3
HIST 111 Modern World Civilization 3

(3) Students with associate's degrees who have not met the transfer articulation distribution requirement may complete the Transfer Articulation Agreement at FHSU or fulfill the FHSU General Education program.

(4) Credit for equivalent technical courses may be granted by departmental examination at the receiving institution.
