Albertson Hall
Albertson Hall was constructed in 1928 to serve as the Science
Building. The building was named for Dr. Fred W. Albertson, former
chair of the division of biological sciences and head of the botany
department at Fort Hays State University. At the time of his death
in 1961, Dr. Albertson was a professor of botany.
Completion of a $7.8 million renovation of Albertson Hall occurred
in May 2000. Funding for the project was provided by state-allocated
"Crumbling Classroom" monies. The building now houses the departments
of Agriculture, Biological
Sciences, and Communication
Disorders and the Dean of the College
of Health and Life Sciences.
The facility is most well known for the observatory which has been open to the
public for telescope viewing at specified times through the years. The observatory
houses one of the two largest refractor telescopes in Kansas.
