Sheridan Hall was constructed in 1916-1917 and named for General Philip Sheridan who spent some time at the Fort Hays military post in 1866. Renovation of the building was completed in March of 1991. The building was the former home of a 2,000 seat arena in which FHSU held concerts, basketball games and conventions. In 1987 renovation began on this landmark creating the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center. Beach/Schmidt seats 1,100 for events ranging from ballet and opera to musicals and drama productions — many of these as part of the annual Encore Series.

Sheridan Hall houses the Student Service Offices. One of the first floor offices, the Registrar's Office, handles enrollment, transcripts, degree summaries and adding/dropping of classes. The Business Office and Student Fiscal Services Office also are located on the first floor.

Photo of Sheridan Hall The Career Services Office which is located on the second floor, assists students with resume and interview techniques, schedules on-campus interviews, and helps students research their career options. Through the Jobs For Tigers service students receive help in finding a job, on or off campus, while attending FHSU.

The Student Affairs Office advises undeclared majors, fraternities, sororities, and administers the National and International Student Exchange Programs. It also includes International Student Services and Services for Students with Disabilities. This is the student problem-solving office. It is a place where a student can turn for assistance or advice.

University Relations and the Budget and Planning Office also are found on the second floor of Sheridan Hall.

On the third floor are the President's, Provost's (chief academic affairs officer), and Vice President for Administration and Finance offices.
