First Year Experience (FYE)
Leadership Opportunities

FYE has a number of undergraduate student leaders who work with new FHSU students, their parent(s), legal guardian(s), and family members throughout the year. Some of these roles are paid positions while other roles are volunteer positions. All positions are open to any full-time student (undergraduate or graduate student). All of these positions are considered part of the FYE Student Leadership Team.

Orientation Student Directors (Student Directors)
The Orientation Student Directors (Student Directors) will play an integral role in the success of the Tiger STRIPES: Orientation & Pre-Enrollment programs. Student Directors are committed former Orientation Leaders or Family Orientation Leaders who desire to represent the FHSU FYE program to incoming students and their parents/family members and assisting them in the transition process.

Orientation Team Leaders (Team Leaders)
The Orientation Team Leaders (Team Leaders) will play a vital role in success of the Tiger STRIPES: Orientation and Pre-Enrollment programs. Team Leaders are committed former Orientation Leaders who desire to play a larger role in the Tiger STRIPES: Orientation and Pre-Enrollment programs in supporting professional staff and Student Directors during programs.

Student Orientation Leaders (OLs)
Student Orientation Leaders lead small groups of new first-year & transfer students during Tiger STRIPES: Pre-Enrollment programs during the spring and early summer (April, May & June). Student OLs lead small group conversation, answer questions on student panels, provide tours, etc. This is a paid position.
Number of positions available = 20-25

Parent & Family Orientation Leaders (OLs)
Parent & Family Orientation Leaders lead parents and families of the new first-year & transfer students attending Tiger STRIPES: Pre-Enrollment programs during the spring and early summer (April, May & June). Parent & Family OLs host breakout sessions, answer questions on parent/family panels, provide tours, etc. This is a paid position.
Number of positions available = 5-7

Transition Student Associate (TSAs)
Transition Student Associates (TSAs) will aid in the successful transition of second-year (or sophomore) students and new transfer students to Fort Hays State University by connecting them with a previous second-year or transfer student who will serve as a role model, mentor, and resource.

Tiger Impact Fall Orientation Weekend Welcome Leaders
Tiger Impact Fall Orientation Weekend Welcome Leaders serve as the primary workforce of Tiger Impact, the four-day fall orientation & transition program in August. During this program, Welcome Leaders guide and connect new students through co-leading a small group of students while generating and guiding discussions with students regarding their transition into life at FHSU. The Welcome Leaders are the key ingredient when it comes to infusing, inspiring and instigating excitement and energy throughout Tiger Impact. This is a volunteer position.

Tiger Impact Fall Orientation Weekend Student Director
Tiger Impact Fall Orientation Weekend Student Directors are returning Tiger Impact Welcome Leaders who desire to plan, prepare for and execute Tiger Impact. The Student Directors serve as the primary supervisors for Tiger Impact Welcome Leaders and work with the FYE/Transition & Student Conduct staff to provide direction, marketing, staff development, operations, recruitment, programming, and logistics pertaining to Tiger Impact. The Student Directors will be expected to staff the Tiger Impact table during the Tiger STRIPES: Freshman and Transfer Pre-Enrollment programs, and serve in other capacities as assigned. This is a paid position.

Prerequisite: Must have served as a Tiger Impact Welcome Leader for 1 term

Golden Beginnings Leaders
Golden Beginnings Leaders oversee a group of students during the Golden Beginnings Pre-Orientation Program, a multi-day program that occurs immediately prior to the Tiger Impact Fall Orientation Weekend. Leaders are expected to facilitate small group discussions, assist with large group settings, and build community while engaging, empowering and educating the participating students through establishing a transformational sense of belonging, community and team-work. This is a volunteer position.

Golden Beginnings Pre-Orientation Program for First-Generation Student Director
The Golden Beginnings Student Director must have participated in Golden Beginnings before or have at least one year of experience working within the Office of Transition and Student Conduct. the Student Director will provide overall direction to the logistics, programming, marketing, staff development, operations, and recruitment for Golden Beginnings. The Student Director will be expected to represent and promote participation in the Golden Beginnings program during Tiger STRIPES: Freshman Pre-Enrollment programs, and serve in other capacities as assigned. This is a volunteer position.
Number of positions available = 1
Prerequisite:  Must have participated in Golden Beginnings before or have at least one year of experience working within the Office of Transition and Student Conduct
