First Year Experience (FYE)
Leadership Opportunities

FYE has a number of undergraduate student leaders who work with our new students, their parents and families throughout the year. Some of the roles are paid positions while others are volunteer roles. All positions are open to any full-time student (undergraduate or graduate student). All of these positions are considered part of the FYE Student Leadership Team.

Student Orientation Assistants (OAs)
Student Orientation Assistants lead small groups of new first year & transfer students during Tiger Pre-Enrollment programs during the spring and early summer (April, May & June). Student OAs lead small group conversation, answer questions on student panels, provide tours, etc. This is a paid position.
Number of positions available = 20-25

Parent & Family Orientation Assistants (OAs)
Parent & Family Orientation Assistants lead parents and families of the new first year & transfer students attending Tiger Pre-Enrollment programs during the spring and early summer (April, May & June). Parent & Family OAs host breakout sessions, answer questions on parent/family panels, provide tours, etc. This is a paid position.

Senior Orientation Assistants (OAs)
Senior Orientation Assistants are returning OAs who desire additional responsibility. Each Senior OA is responsible for serving as the primary supervisor for one of the OA teams - Student OAs or Parent & Family OAs. The Senior OAs work together with the FYE/Persistence & Retention staff to provide direction to programming and logistics of the Tiger Pre-Enrollment student and parent/family tracks. This is a paid position.

Tiger Impact Leaders
Tiger Impact Leaders serve as the primary workforce of Tiger Impact, the four-day fall orientation & transition program in August, guiding and connecting new students. Tiger Impact Leaders will co-lead a small group of students through the four-day experience by creating excitement and energy for Tiger Impact programs & guiding discussions with students regarding transition to FHSU. This is a volunteer position.

Tiger Impact Student Coordinator
The Tiger Impact Student Coordinators are returning Tiger Impact Leaders who desire additional responsibility. The Tiger Impact Student Coordinators serve as the primary supervisors for the Tiger Impact Leaders and work with the FYE/Persistence & Retention staff to provide direction to programming and logistics to the four-day fall orientation experience. The Tiger Impact Student Coordinators will be expected to staff the FYE table at the Tiger Pre-Enrollment programs. This is a paid position.

Golden Beginnings: Premiere Guides
Golden Beginnings: Premiere Guides lead a small group of students during the Golden Beginnings: Premiere experience, a 48-hour optional extended orientation experience during late July. Guides will facilitate small group discussion, assist with large group settings, and build community within largeĀ & small groups. This is a volunteer position.

Golden Beginnings: Premiere Student Directors
Golden Beginnings: Premiere Student Directors provide overall direction to the logistics, programming, marketing, staff development, operations & recruitment for the Golden Beginnings: Premiere experience. Student Directors will be assigned 1 of the 4 functional areas (Director of Marketing & Recruitment, Director of Operations & Programming, Director of Staff Development or Executive Director). This is a volunteer position.

Golden Beginnings: Adventure Mentors
Golden Beginnings: Adventure is a new optional extended orientation program that will launch Summer 2014. This experience will mirror many similarities with the Golden Beginnings: Premiere experience; however, the Adventure program will feature 4 days/3 nights of outdoor, wilderness-based education including rock climbing, hiking, camping, group cooking, etc. to build teamwork & community within a small group of 10-15 incoming students. The Golden Beginnings: Adventure Mentors will facilitate discussions & conversations throughout the adventure experience and assist the FYE/Persistence & Retention Staff with developing reflection tools & programming. This is a volunteer position.

First Year Experience Student Coordinator
The First Year Experience Student Coordinator has primary responsibility coordinating TigerConnect & ParentConnect (focused social media platforms for new Tigers & their parents/families), Augustfest (first 4 weeks of welcome program for new & returning students), new student connection programs (Fort Hays Firsts for first generation students & OSSM for new out-of-state students), and marketing for the Learning Communities. This Student Coordinator also assists the FYE/Persistence & Retention staff with other programs and services throughout the year. This is a paid position that works 20 hours/week throughout the duration of the academic year.
