Academic Program and Course Information

Academic Programs & Degrees - The Department offers baccalaureate and advanced degrees with flexible career emphasis options as well as minors in both geology and geography.

Certificate Programs

Field Trips - Every semester the Department offers a variety of field trips and field experiences designed to expand on concepts learned in core geosciences courses and to provide participants with real-world experience exploring specific geologic or geographic topics.

FHSU Geosciences Clubs - All Geosciences majors are encouraged to join at least one of the department clubs. The Sternberg Geosciences and Geocaching combined club is open to all students. Two clubs are currently underdevelopment for students interested in Petroleum Geology.

Student Academic Planner - The Student Academic Planner is a tool designed to provide students with important academic information and assistance with college success. This file is updated and maintained by the Academic Advising and Career Exploration Center.

Geosciences Scholarship Information - The Department of Geosciences has scholarships available for incoming freshmen, undergraduates, and graduates.

Jobs/Internships/Career Opportunities

GIS Lab

The GIS Lab is not an open public computer lab and is available ONLY for the following:

  • Geosciences students assigned class or research projects requiring use of specific programs available only in the GIS Lab,
  • Students enrolled in a FHSU GIS, Remote Sensing, or Cartography class
  • Students/individuals/organizations with written permission to use the computers, equipment, or software available in the lab for a specified time

GIS Lab Open Hours - Intermission 

During intermission session GIS lab avaliable by request, permission required.

Spring semster open lab hours to begin January 22nd 

NOTE: Notices and hours posted at the lab will take precedence over hours listed on the website. The GIS Lab is closed during intersessions (such as Spring Break, Fall Break, Christmas Break, Summer) and holidays. Groups or student project participants may request permission to use the lab during regular office hours during intersessions.
