Why Geography?
Why would I want to get a degree in Geography?
First modern Geography is very exciting. There are
new technologies like GIS (Geographic Information
Systems) and remote sensing (looking at the Earth from satellites)
that give us exciting and powerful ways to help understand how physical
and human systems work. Second, many of the challenges that face
us in the future are related to the cultural, political, and economic
differences between places. Geography is an ideal way to get involved
in tackling these challenges. Finally, GIS is one of the hottest
career fields available. Skilled GIS
experts are in great demand in business, government, and science.
Job growth in GIS is expected to be among the highest of all fields
over the coming decade, and starting salaries are above average.
Why should I study Geography at FHSU?
FHSU is making
a strong effort to become a leader in the new geographic technologies
in GIS. The faculty is highly skilled and has extensive experience.
The GIS lab facilities are modern and improving all the time. Financial
assistance is available, and the Department of Geosciences has many
fun activities like field trips
and the Sternberg Geosciences Club.
