Faculty and Staff Resource Book
Letter from the Interim Dean of
Graduate Studies and Research
August, 2007
Scholarship is the foundation of any true university.
Research and creative activities inspire faculty and students,
provide new knowledge, connect the disciplines, and connect teaching
and learning while linking theory with practice to address the
needs of a diverse society.
Fort Hays State University recognizes the relationship
between research/creative activities and excellence. By improving
the environment that fosters research, scholarship, and creative
activity, a more dynamic and academic university is created. However,
securing support for research/creative activities requires planning
and persistence. Like most institutions of higher learning, Fort
Hays State University has limited resources for funding research/creative
activities. Thus seeking external funding through grant writing
has become increasingly competitive.
The resource book you have in your hands has been
developed to assist new and current faculty or staff members in
securing support for research/creative activity. Internal and
external sources of funds are included, along with selected forms
and guidelines to assist in grant preparation. The personnel in
the Grants Office, part of the Graduate School at Fort Hays State
University, are available to assist you in these endeavors.
The materials in this resource book provide a framework
for writing grants for specific purposes. In order to stay abreast
of developments in the grant writing arena, this resource book
will change and you will be sent updates in the future to be included
in this book. Hopefully, the material in this resource book will
be helpful in your grant writing.
I want to recognize the efforts of Leslie Paige,
Grants Facilitator and Ashley McClellan, Speech-Language Pathology
Graduate Student, in developing and preparing this resource book.
