The Program: Freshman students gain valuable experience
while observing the certified staff and athletic training program
students in the athletic training rooms at Gross Memorial Coliseum
and Lewis Field. Students accepted into the program (Sophomores)
will be required to complete six (6) continuous semesters of athletic
training clinical assignments. These assignments are arranged by
the athletic training program director. Students are expected to
arrange their schedules so that they will be able to attend all
clinical assignments. Athletic Training students at Fort Hays State
University have the opportunity to be placed with varsity athletics
at FHSU, a high school, or a clinical setting for the clinical portion
of the program. Students are also required to complete an internship
between their junior and senior years or after completing all program
requirements. Satisfactory completion of the required athletic training
competencies, and completion of the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in
Athletic Training are required to be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC)
examination. In addition, a total of 800 clinical hours must be
recorded in order to be eligible for Kansas licensure.
