Graduate Degrees in Health and Human Performance
General Information
Master of Science - On-Campus
Study at the graduate level in the Department of Health
and Human Performance leads to a Master of Science Degree in Health
and Human Performance (HHP). The program provides opportunities
for continued development of the conceptual, technical, analytical,
and communication skills necessary for successful careers in teaching/coaching,
exercise science, and sport administration. The program provides
a well-rounded foundation in health and human performance in combination
with elective areas of concentration. This enables students to pursue
studies applicable to career goals and interests.
Admission criteria includes: 1) acceptance to the Graduate School at Fort Hays State University: 2) completion of minimum
of 18 undergraduate credit hours in health and human performance,
exclusive of service courses; 3) a minimum grade point average of
3.0 for last 60 credit hours on the bachelor's degree; or 4) a 2.50-2.99
grade point average for last 60 credit hours on the bachelor's degree
and a minimum combined score of 850 on the Verbal and Quantitative
component of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or a minimum
score of 40 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT); 5) three letters
of recommendation. Any student with a GPA below 3.0 must have an
acceptable GRE or MAT score on file prior to admission to the program.
Program Content
The program consists of a 17 hour core plus an additional
15 hours accumulated from an area of concentration. Students can
select a thesis option in any of the concentration areas with six
hours of thesis becoming part of the 15 hour requirement. All students
are required to successfully complete a comprehensive examination
prior to graduation.
Students at the graduate level are encouraged to complete a graduate project or thesis as a part of their individual program. Core courses should be scheduled as on-campus classes.
