WEEK SIX---1942: Turning Points
Overview
The purpose of this week's lecture and reading assignments is to consider
several turning points that occurred during 1942. Each of these turning
points profoundly influenced both the future course of the war and eventual
outcome of the war. You think carefully, both in reflecting on the
lecure and the reading materials, about the elements of what we have since
designated "inevitablity" and "victory culture." You might want to
speculate on the degree to which one or several of these turning points
were, in fact, not as significant as subsequent myths and historical accounts
have indicated.
