Essential Responsibilities:
- Beginning with the 2013-14 academic year, effectively teach computer courses such as cyber security, virtualization, networking, and software applications. Assignments may include evening courses and teaching via alternative delivery systems, such as online or hybrid courses.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, administrators, and faculty.
- Assess student learning and application of course objectives and competencies.
- Design, develop, and maintain course curriculum, materials, assessments, and evaluations according to HCC and state standards, and in response to industry needs and trends.
- Work collaboratively on Computer Support Specialist (CSS) and Computer Science (CS) program activities, planning and development.
- Recruit students and market for computer classes and the CSS and CS programs.
- Participate in program advisory committees with area businesses.
- Maintain records and files as requested by the department.
- Serve actively in department activities and on campus committees.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Advise prospective and current students in proper curricula.
- Pursue professional development opportunities, as needed.
- Support and participate in student clubs and organizations.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the department chairperson and the vice president of academic affairs, and as specified in the local Master Agreement.
Qualifications:
- Work experience in Computer Support, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field preferred.
- Evidence of effective teaching experience at the collegiate level preferred.
- Experience with the PC platform required.
- Knowledge and experience with cyber security, virtualization, networking, and Microsoft Office required.
- Knowledge and experience with other operating systems, hardware and third party certifications (such as CompTIA A+/Net+, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, or CNSS 4011) preferred.
- Ability and willingness to teach via alternative delivery systems including online and/or other distance education modes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, administrators, and faculty.
- Ability and willingness to stay current with industry standards and technology.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Physical requirements include excellent communication skills.
Salary & Status:
- The salary is commensurate with qualifications as determined by the 2013-14 Master Agreement initial hiring schedule. This full-time faculty position is 9-months annual, tenure track, benefit eligible and exempt.
