Sunflower Broadcasting, Inc., consisting of KWCH-TV, KSCW-TV, and satellite stations KBSD-TV, KBSH-TV, and KBSL-TV, is currently accepting applications for a full-time Anchor/Reporter. Join one of the largest local news teams in Kansas. TV, Web, Social Media - they do it all on multiple platforms and channels. Join the dominant news station in Kansas and work in a new, state-of-the-art newsroom.
Anchors newscasts and serves as general assignment reporter.
SBI is seeking someone with 3-5 years of anchor and reporting experience. A bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field is required.
Essential Functions:
- Anchor newscasts in a clear, energetic and informative manner
- Research, gather, write and report original news stories
- Enterprise stories from assigned geographical and subject-area beat
- Maintain contacts and knowledge about assigned beats and conduct regular beat checks
- Conduct interviews in the field and on-set
- Collaborate with photographers and editors to produce the best stories visually
- Report "live" on the scene
- Enterprise and produce original packages for sweeps periods
- Attend and contribute in daily editorial meetings
- Post and update stories on the web
- Post extended interviews, raw video and photo galleries to station website
- Communicate with the web staff during breaking news
- Interact with viewers through social media such as Facebook and Twitter
- Represent the station at public events
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Essential Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent live reporting skills, strong on-camera presentation skills, ad-libbing skills required
- Able to produce and post original content to our websites
- Ability to generate daily and enterprise story ideas and effectively work a beat
- Able to play an active role in the editorial process
- Strong news writing and research skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to write in a clear, concise, and easy-to-understand, conversational manner
- Commanding and personable anchor presence
- Demonstrate solid news judgment
- Maintain strong journalistic ethics
- Strong attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of web posting software
- Ability to navigate and conduct online research using various search engines
- Ability to stay current with national and local news/weather
- Intermediate-level knowledge of social media
- Ability to shoot video
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Demonstrate leadership through training and mentoring less-experienced staff members
- Ability to remain positive and foster a positive work environment
- Must hold a valid driver's license and a good driving record
