The Cisco Networking Academy System is the worlds leading
mechanism for dissemination of information technology skills. The
system uses a combination of intensively prepared instructors, high
quality multimedia curriculum, laboratory experiences, and work
based learning. Curriculum and training originate from the Cisco
Learning Institute (CLI), a non-profit organization established
with the mission of creating capable employees for the information
technology workforce CLI is sponsored by Cisco Systems, Sun Micro
Systems, Adobe, Microsoft and Fluke.
Each curriculum is instructor led, but web based. Each may be previewed
on the web.

The Networking Academy System is a tiered system starting with the
Cisco Learning Institute. The next step is the national Cisco Academy
Training Centers (CATCs) who train regional instructors and
whom are involved in developing and reviewing curriculum. Regional
Academies provide training and support for Local Academies (and
may have extensive educational programs for their own students).
Local Academies students.
Local Academies may be based in high schools, community or technical
colleges, universities, or community based organizations. Kansas
high schools classify the courses as vocational for
funding purposes. Many students take the courses for dual high school
and college credit through Fort Hays State University. The networking
classes can be classified as applied physics classes. Courses can
qualify as the Regents Curriculum required computer course.
Fort Hays State University provides the umbrella for the Kansas
Cisco Networking Academy System. This system comprised of three
regional academies. These include two FHSU regional networking academies
that serve community colleges, technical colleges, and high schools.
It also includes the Fort Hays Educational Development Center that
serves FHEDC member school districts. Students may continue from
local academy training into more advanced curriculum at Fort Hays
State University. Fort Hays State University provides training,
support, and graduate credit for local instructors.
Fort Hays State University and Johnson County Community College
jointly are a Cisco Academy Training Center for Sponsored Curriculum.
This center serves Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma,
Iowa, New Mexico and Arkansas. Fort Hays State University provides
the training for instructors in the Web Design curriculum and IT
Essentials (A+) curriculum. Johnson County Community College provides
training in the Unix, Java and Voice and Data Cabling curriculum.
Further curriculum areas will be supported as additional information
technology companies funnel courses through the program.
Training for instructors is conducted several times a year. Depending
the on the curriculum, courses require between six and twenty-two
days. If a school or college or cluster of educational organizations
desire on-site training, Fort Hays State University will provide
such training. Many faculty take training courses for graduate credit.
Courses can be applied toward the Masters of Liberal Studies in
Information Networking and Telecommunications or the Masters of
Instructional Technology.
The Cisco Networking Academy System focuses on quality. In each
topic area, the Cisco Learning Institute strives to provide the
best curriculum in its class. Faculty must pass national certification
examinations and lab examinations. Faculty are observed in annual
site visits and each organization at each level of the System participates
in an integrated Quality Assurance Program.
