Advanced Technology Labs
The Advanced Technology Labs, located on the first floor of Picken Hall, are home to the Telecommunications, Networking and Web Development curriculums in the INT Department. These labs, formerly in Wiest Hall, were opened in its current location in December 2003; through a joint-collaboration between FHSU, Cisco Systems, and Nex-Tech/Rural Telephone. The Advanced Technology Labs include the “Emily Kutzbuger Memorial Lab”, dedicated by her family.
The labs are equipped to prepare students whom are studying network engineering and implementation, telephony, wireless networking, network security, web development,
e-commerce, and web-enabled databases. They specifically include training equipment for the Cisco CCNA and CCNP curricula and equipment and software for preparing students for the Certified Web Design Apprentice (CWDSA) and Oracle Certified Associate certifications. Being Cisco Certified Networking Associate Labs, students have the beneficial opportunity in being able to work hands-on with state-of-the-art equipment used in the field of INT. The labs boast the latest in Cisco equipment such as 1600 series routers, Catalyst switches, 2514 routers, Cisco Micro Hubs, and experimental computers connected to the Cisco Lab setup.
Uniquely, they also contain tools such as NetLab, which are specifically designed to serve distance learning students in a realistic and highly interactive manner.
High-end PC and Mac computers are installed in the labs, all with Internet access; and are set up exclusively for student projects. INT industry standard software on lab computers, include Oracle Database 9i Enterprise edition suite (consists of both client and server applications), Adobe GoLive, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Net Objects Fusion, Cold Fusion Server, Windows XP operating systems, and much more. Projects include Linux, BSD, and DNS Server setup; along with lab PC’s having access to routers, allowing students to change the configuration of the routers.
The Advanced Technology Labs include two substantial labs open to all INT students. The Graduate and Research Lab is reserved for graduate students and faculty to set-up projects requiring physical security and longer-term applications. Graduate students may seek permission to study and perform experiments in this lab.
