Dr. John Durham was raised primarily in Berkeley, California. He graduated from high school in 1963, and attended Swarthmore College (near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), where he majored in classical Greek. He graduated in 1967, then went to Harvard for doctoral work in Assyriology, emphasizing social and intellectual history. Durham received his PhD in 1976. He turned down a position at the University of Chicago to undertake further study, this time in business (concentration: accounting), getting an MBA from Northern Arizona University (Flagstaff) in 1979. He was an accountant in public practice in Flagstaff from 1977 through 1980, and joined the faculty of Northern Arizona University's College of Business Administration in 1980.
He was a CPA in Arizona and became a Certified Internal Auditor in 1985.
At Northern Arizona he taught various accounting, programming, and statistics.
He was the past President of the Faculty Senate of Fort Hays State University.
Courses taught in INT Department: John retired from Fort Hays State in May 2002. He continues to provide support and advice to the INT Department. John enjoys keeping in touch with former students.
