The Fort Hays State University Transfer and Articulation Guide can be found at http://www.fhsu.edu/registrar/TAAgree.shtml.
You may find valuable information on policies and procedures on transferability in this guide. As a general rule, most General Education course work will transfer as long as it fits within the policies described within this guide. The Department of Information Networking and Telecommunications will try to accept up to six credit hours into the 39 credit hour core major and six credit hours into the 15 credit hour emphasis for a total of twelve credits. These are above and beyond the General Education credit hours that transfer.
Department of Information Networking and Telecommunications Guidelines for Concurrent Enrollment, Transfer of Credit and Test-Out Credit
The Fort Hays State University Department of Information Networking and Telecommunications desires to assist students seeking to efficiently move through their university careers. However, the department is also committed to quality and assuring that students who seek to accelerate credit have gained the requisite knowledge and skills to place them on an even footing with students who have completed classes from the department.
Transfer Credit
Students planning on transferring into the Bachelors of Science or Bachelors of Arts degrees in Media Studies, Computer Networking and Telecommunications, or Web Development, will maximize their transfer credits by earning an Associate of Arts at the community college level. Associate of Science degrees generally work well, but may not satisfy all general education requirements and may include more major classes than transfer. Associate of Applied Science degrees are not designed by community college and technical colleges to transfer. The INT Department and FHSU will try transfer as many credit hours from A.A.S. programs as possible. The maximum number of credit hours that transfer into a major will be 12. A student may be able to satisfy the vast majority of general education and free elective credit hours through work at a two-year institution. Please be aware that national accrediting agencies require 60 credit hours from a university for a student to earn a bachelors degree! Please visit the Transfer and Articulation Guide for further information:
http://www.fhsu.edu/registrar/TAAgree.shtml
The Bachelors of General Studies is a much more flexible degree than the Bachelors of Arts or the Bachelors of Science degree. A student may transfer up to 12 credit hours in to the 21 hour INT Concentration. Other related credits that qualify as “liberal arts” or as free electives may transfer into the degree. Please visit the FHSU BGS website for more information on policies.

Concurrent Enrollment
The Department of Information Networking and Telecommunications will work with high schools to offer concurrent credit for entry level courses. The Department requires the following to assure quality. 1) The high school uses the curriculum prescribed; 2) The instructing faculty have a masters degree and have completed any trainings required for the specific curriculum; 3) The school district has a written agreement with FHSU for concurrent enrollment; and 4) The instructors are involved in a quality assessment annually. This may include observation in the classroom. Courses commonly offered for concurrent enrollment are:
- INT 291 Internetworking I (Cisco CCNA Semester 1)
- INT 292 Internetworking II (Cisco CCNA Semester 2)
- INT 250 Intro to Web
- INT 270 Intro to Electronic Media
For more information, please contact the Department of Information Networking and Telecommunications.
Credit by Examination
Students may “test out” of courses in a variety of ways and receive Military Service Credit. Information on the general methods can be found in the Fort Hays State University Catalog on pages 39-40 http://web.fhsu.edu/universitycatalog/gen/generalexaminations.asp
The Department of Information Networking and Telecommunications will allow an enrolled or prospective student who subsequently enrolls, to earn examination credit for the nine credit hours comprising the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) curriculum. These courses include:
- INT 291 Internetworking I
- INT 292 Internetworking II
- INT 293 Internetworking III
To earn credit, a student must successfully pass the CCNA Examination (either as one test or two parts). The student will provide the INT Department Chair will a link to his score(s) on Cisco.com. The examination must have been taken within the last three years.
A $25 fee payable to the FHSU Registrar’s Office is required for each course for which credit is awarded by examination. Students should submit this fee to the INT Department. The INT Department will send notice of passage to the Provost’s Office and the fee to the Registrar’s Office.
Students who have passed the CCNP, CCIE, CISSP, or MSCE are not able to test out, but the INT Department is willing to work with students holding current these industry certifications to earn credit in an accelerated manner. The MCSE certification will involve the Accounting and Information Systems Department at
